some updates.
nearly finished just missing the cd player now.

Multifunction steering wheel inside

the LED 1206

Lights

Here are the main console switch

lights

The complete product almost..

Here are som pictures of the bimmian LED.
They are just white. not so blue as it looks in the pictures

I suddenly came up with a great idea. The window switches in the back for the rear windows have no light. So i will solder on a 3 mm led here with a resistor. And then it would be light in the rear switches altso.

Thats all for today

Its not that hard. the most of the panels are just set with a couple of screws. You figure it out fast when you start to take things appart.

Great job man. Those lights are pure seexxxx!!!

I love your patience and ambition to be different from the pack.

Do you mind giving us the site where you ordered those lights and how many of each you needed to do this. (Links to each light you needed please)

I too, am tired of the conventional orange/red lights. You inspired me to try this project out.

I was ordering theese at led-depot.co.uk
How many you need depends on what cd player you have. Some cd players are delivered with PLCC-2 led's. and some have just the 0805.
But i think if you order 70 of the PLCC-2 LED's for the cluster and climatic control.
this one http://www.led-depot.co.uk/epages/es...0LED%22/PLCC-2

maybe 20 of the 1206 LED's if u have a multifunctional steering wheel.
http://www.led-depot.co.uk/epages/es...%20LED%22/1206

And 50 of the 0805 LED's to the cd player. i think the newest cd player uses those lighs and PLCC-2. you should check it what you have.

In the window switches it is used 3 mm leds. and the buttons for the fog lights. maybe you need 10 but buy 20 so you have enough
http://www.led-depot.co.uk/epages/es...Categories/3mm

The door lock button is a 5 mm led. you just need 1, but have to order 10
http://www.led-depot.co.uk/epages/es...ter%20Clear%22

Its a smart thing to order some more than you need. Because you can destroy them when soldering. Hope this helps !

I have the same exact setup displayed in this picture, except my car is manual.

Do I need the PLCC-2 LEDs or the 0805's?

If it is PLCC-2 I need, will 150 cover the CD Player, Cluster and Climate Control? (Also Traction Control and Heated Seats Buttons) Or 100 PLCC-2's and 50 0805's for certain areas of the CD player?

And you never mentioned the Hazards button. Will it be the same as the Door Lock button or no?

To help clarify, I own a 2001 330ci. Pre-face (Don't know if this matters)

Sorry for all the questions and I appreciate your help.

After your finish with this, I think you should create a DIY. I'm pretty sure we aren't the only people that would like Blue LED's instead of the standard orange/red.

Of course only for the "advanced" or people with experience with soldering should try.

I can't wait to get started. I'm sure I covered every and any question people viewing this thread might of wanted to ask.

Thanks again.

I'm pretty sure the only DIY you would need is a DIY on how to tear apart your console to get into the PCBs where the LEDs are sitting.

order 70 of the PLCC-2 LED's for the cluster and climatic control.

20 of the 1206 LED's for the multifunctional steering wheel.

And 50 of the 0805 LED's to the cd player. seat heater, dsc button etc..

In the window switches it is used 3 mm leds. and the buttons for the fog lights. buy 20 so you have enough

The door lock button is a 5 mm led. you just need 1, but have to order 10

the hazard button is just a regular halogen bulb. and the plastic button is colored red. So i dont think it would be possible to change the light in it.

if you order this quantity you are sure to have enough LED's for the whole project.

i'm not an "expert" in soldering. i just bought some leds and got to work.. nothing more than that. so every handyman can fix this with a bit of patience

But the only DIY here is to get out in the car and start to tear things appart. It is easy. if you can change a tire yu would be able to figure out how to pull things out

if you wonder how to. you can just search the forum here. then you will fint a lots of posts how to tear appart the instrument cluster.. or even do a quick search on youtube

i was soldering in some resistors and some leds for the rear window switches... when that was done.. i figured out that there is no cables for the light in the eletrical system. so i have to make a jumper here i think.. got to figure it out.. i WANT those lighs.. just have to google some drawings for the eletrical system.. and hopefully figure it out. more pictures tomorrow

Unfortunately the least amount of lights I can order is 50 of the 3mm's and 50 of the 5mm's.

Seems they changed it, but hey. I don't mind, I'll find some use for them in the future.

And which rear window switches are you referring to? In the picture you posted (next to the shifter) you already soldered those lights.

yes you always find led usefull .. So i never mind if you order to mutch.. you need by the way 2 pc 3 mm led for the ashtray lights. forgot those.

But the switches i am talking about are the switches in the rear door. I have the sedan version with 4 doors.

here are some resistors and some LED's

soldered inside the switch

i'm waiting for more led's to come... need to have som patience here altso missing the LED's to the cd player. But the last days i have figured out how to get illuminated window switches in the back. i will run a cable from the + ashtray light. trough the door harness and up to the switch. i have ordered som original BMW pins for the connector between the door and car body. they will hopefully appear in the mailbox in some few days.. but i'm soon going to work again for 14 days.. so i'm not sure i have time to do the rest before work. but i will come with an update when i get the missing parts

Mmmm I just started this with my white LEDs. Looks really good. The window switches were a bit tricky at first, because I didn't realize the LEDs were soldered to the circuit board. I thought they were connected to the button, so I desoldered one and kind of mangled one of the mounting legs.

Anyways, mmmmmm white interior LEDs.
