High Idle Rumble ???

Searched the forums for my high, rough idle gremlin and all the posts address a problem 180 degrees from my happenings.

My 2004 325Xi runs at around 750rpm on startup in cold and maintains this rate even when the car is warm. When I turn off the sources of increase current demands (fan, radio) the idle speed comes down to around 600 but the rough idle continues.

Then last night I am driving for about 10 minutes and what do you know, a very smooth idle with all electrical current demands on. The rpms were around 600.

Any thoughts on this? Basically idle rumble around 750-900 rpms are stop with automatic transmission engaged. Then out of nowhere, a smooth vibrationless idle at stop around 600. This morning I had a rough idle until I drove for about 10 minutes and engine was hot.
