I have had black plastidip on my wheels in Denver CO. for the last 5-6 months. Through cool and dry to very hot and dry conditions I have had ZERO problems with it peeling, cracking, or looking any different than the day I first applied the stuff. I'm not saying you're wrong, Just saying I have had no problems. You really need to be sure you get a few good heavy coats on anything you are applying it to.

the key to this is using 3 HEAVY coats and waiting atleast an hour after last coast before putting wheel back on your car.... also, feather the can when your painting like its real paint, theres no need to do an arc motion unless your really that worried about getting plasti on your tire... which you shouldnt cuz you can rub it off with your hand..
I was kinda drunk and got antsy so I put my style 45's on after about 30mins using with OEM lugs and the tire wrench that comes with the car... bad idea. throw that damn tire iron in the trash if its still in your trunk. it started peeling around the lug holes so I gave them a final SOPPING wet coat. "forgiving" is really an understatement with this stuff if you know how to paint. if your wheel is clean and you rattle every 10 seconds or so it won't bubble no matter how much you spray and will always level itself out. its pretty amazing stuff I had some pretty gnarly curb rash ALL the way around my wheels on the outside. I sanded the rash a bit before painting and it turned out amazing! Stock alloy wheels look like **** unless they are waxxy clean, which only happens for the first 45 minutes after a car wash if you daily drive and brake aggressively as I do.... I often found myself at the car wash with a semi-clean car and filthy ass ugly wheels so I will definitely be wasting less time at the car wash. I did this DIY the same day my blackout package came (corners, sides, led tails, grille, emblems), did the tint myself the next day and the exterior of my car looks completely transformed for about 360$. Will post before/after pics tm. Just ignore ZHP, he's clearly just a troll. Coming into a thread named after a color he doesn't like and essentially posting "i dont like that color on wheels, it makes me want to kill myself" then comparing the aesthetics of all black rims to spares is a very basic form of trolling IMO. No one asked you to like them bro, and your snobbetry is clearly not appreciated by anyone here... so why bother posting??? Oh wait, I forgot, its because your a trolling elitist ****tard. That sweet ride of yours wont add inches to your dick, buddy. PEACE Last edited by seacorb; 10-08-2011 at 04:58 AM. |

Yeah.... I am tired of the plastidip. I feel like its pretty gay. At least every time I get high I get all self conscious about them lol. Back to silver for me. It would be cool if it was glossy black...but it's not, it's a less than flat black.. It seems dark dark grey at times. Only looks good while it's raining or the wheels are wet lol.
For the record, they lasted for about 1 year with only tiny bits of silver showing through on the very edge of the rim

I sprayed my oem 18's on my M3. I had them black for a month or two. Then I found white plasti dip and sprayed over the black with a few cans. Looked awesome for about a week or two. The brake dust made my white wheels look brown and it wouldn't clean up very well so I ended up going back to black. I sprayed over the white again with a few light coats until the wheel was all black. Kept it that way for about a year and then tried to take it off and it wouldn't come off very easily. I found out that using a pressure washer helps but it still took a while to do. Gasoline helped take it off also but it sort of melts the plasti dip so I just pressure washed it off. Very difficult to take off. Don't over spray your wheels! it will be a PITA to take off later on. Plasti dip is tough stuff.

I noticed the following when removing the platidip from my wheels:
1) you want it to come off as more or less one piece 2) this is more important for the smaller nooks and crannies of the wheel or else it very difficult to remove 3) get the wheels moist, I did one heel in the sun and it was very difficult ~1.5 hours for that first wheel. Then it started raining and the platidip became easier to keep in one piece. Cliffs: pour water on the wheel. 100x easier

2 months haha, but anyways I actually did get this done, but I decided I hated it. Black rims aren't for me. I'm planning on buying csl rims soon anyways.
