Rear end differential...

So before any bashing is needed, I understand that I should have posted this somewhere else, but I'm looking for somewhat of a quick response...Can someone please tell me what Rearend Diff. I may have based on my speed and RPMs? I tried to Google this with no luck... thanks all

P.S. check out that gas mileage for this tank!

What chassis and model car is this?

What gear were you in?

Those would help us figure it out,

It's almost impossible to answer this unless you provide the tire size that *should* on that car, vs the tires size that's on the car. As he ^ said, the gear you're in. And it appears that you are in an E30 325.

My fault slipped my mind...so E30 318i with the M42 1.8L...5th gear(5 speed) and tires are 195/65R14...

E46's are timeless, but E30's are classic!

it looks like it's stock to me.
e30 318i had a higher ratio diff(bigger number) than 325i/is in order to provide better acceleration.
374miles on 3/4tank is good I think. I wish my e30 325is got that but given the mods I had I could not complain too much.
Time for new pads?!

this is the calculator you will need. Find out what gears are in the E30 and play around with the final gear ratio to determine what it is.

I believe 4.10s were stock on automatic E30s.

you have a 4.10 diff, this diff came stock in your car.
you are running the exact rpm and speed as i do in 5th
most likely a small case unless it has been changed out.
I blew the **** out of mine once i swapped the m42 for an m20.
Now with an m52 the real fun has begun

It is a 4.10 small case. Get under the car and check the metal tag on the diff cover. It will state the ratio. If it says S4.10 then you have a limited slip. If there is no 'S' prefix then it will just say 4.10 and be an open differential.

Don't bother posting this thread on r3vlimited or e30tech. Theyre going to tell you the same thing I just did and make smart ass remarks. However, there is a great deal of info and good people on those forums.

Enjoy your e30, the newer cars are nothing like em! Especially these damn e46's
