maybe a dumb question, but caliber is dependent on the upper build, right? A stripped lower can be the basis for a 5.56 or 7.62 (or any other caliber that ARs come in), correct?

as long as the bullet fits in the magwell, you just need to find an upper that shoots it.

7.62 you say would be for 300aac, 7.62x39, but not .308/7.62x51...... that turns into an AR10.

Anyone on here use Redfield scopes? I know Leupold owns them in some way-shape-or-form, and I normally only go with Leupold scopes. $$ is a bit tight, and they seem to get good reviews. I'm looking at possibly more along the Battlezone lineup for my AR.

I put the Redfield Revolution 4-12x on my brother's AR build. It's a phenomenal scope for the money. Redfield is a great line of scopes. I have no experience with the Battlezone though.

I was in the shop last week, he is engraving my SBR lower. Prices seemed reasonable, but I didn't look at 9mm BCGs.

Similar, just it's 3-9x40 instead of 3-12x40.

Has their BDC dials and MOA reticle.

Glad to hear the Revolution is good.. I'll probably have to go this route. It's not a serious hunting rig for me (otherwise I'd go Leupold) but as a fun target gun, I think I'll be happy with the Redfield.

I've seen some AR's that have scopes use offset iron sights for back-up / home defense. Anybody have recommendations here? If I put a scope on it, I wouldn't mind keeping something available on the gun as right now it's my go-to-gun.

honestly if you want the best alternative, get an eotech with a 3x magnifier doctor sight in front of it.


when you need magnafication, flip it inline with the eotech. your good to 600 yards on man sized targets.
i regularly hit out 300-400 with my eotech with no magnification. just using the retical circle as my bullet drop compensator. no issues whacking pigs out that far.

if you dont need to magnify, flip it out of the way and keep both eyes open. the eotech just "floats" a reticle in your sub-vision and you loose sight of the actual body of the eotech (or your mind ignores it i should say)


unless you PRACTICE with a 45* offset sight, you arent going to use it. you will just pull up to your shoulder and look straight down the top. trust me.

i run into enough "oh shit" situations bushwhacking looking for pigs, and when they get right on your ass and jump you, your small motor functions dissapear, you tunnel vision and get real blocky with your movements. you better have practiced running your gun.... if you dont automatically flip down the switch as you draw or get ready to fire and you cant feel that saftey @ 6:00 on your thumb it aint gonna fire
