I hadn't planned on getting a QD mount either, so never bothered to put BUIS on that AR. It's nothing more than a range plinker though, so if the scope goes down for some reason I don't really care. I'll fix it or go home.

I would think they'd be on par with Troy. I don't consider Troy to be top of the line, and I have my complaints with them regarding their rails. They're a quality company for their rails, though.

As for the scope, thanks for the insight. Seems the Nikon 223 line is good value for the money, and doesn't break the bank. On the flip side, it doesn't SEEM to be absolute junk either.

I have the P.E.P.R mount, its awesome. REALLY solid construction. As soon as I saw it on a rifle, I knew I wanted it. You should check it out!
Realistically, it doesn't make much of a difference with the rails if you're just doing a drop-in system. Once you get into free-float systems, then it starts making a bigger difference.
If you ever decide to go over to a free-float rail system, invest in Daniel Defense Omega rail if you want a drop-in easy to install free float rail.

My brother's been using a PEPR on the varmint AR I built him. It's a pretty decent mount. Definitely not a LaRue or ADM, but it doesn't cost as much either, so it's a viable option for a lot of applications.

Arfcom has a lot of great info and lots of stuff to get, but take advice you get from that forum with a grain of salt. Everyone on there is an expert apparently, and many of them sing the praises of junk like DSA, DPMS and Plum Crazy.

M4carbine.net is a good resource also, and less mall ninja-ey.

Lightfighter is more about tactics and gear, but there are a couple good sections of weapons. You have to be careful about what you do on there, though. It's a great forum, but I always recommend that before anyone join, they talk to someone who's on there to see if it's something they want to actually be a part of. Its....intense.

I'm glad you posted about Lightfighter before...I have probably less then 10 posts on that site but have learned a ton...plus they have some great reviews on gear. It's definitely intense but a great learning source..plus the hall of fame is great entertainment

I'm a little random with this comment but I've been collecting parts to build my AR , I have a stripped lower and lower kit now and a stock I picked up awhile ago. Long story short parts as we all know are backordered for 8-12 months and I want / need me an AR this summer since we have land to shoot on... Should I just bit the bullet and pay 1200+ for a 223. AR and just sell the parts I have to offset price a little or just keep them and wait on parts to come in , in the meantime buying an AR then finish mines when ever and have 2 AR's ???? Any thoughts

I don't really have a budget I can afford to spend 1200 on a gun right now but it's just crazy knowing The same gun used to go for 700 bucks but anyways I still need everything mines a stock, stipped lower, trigger gaurd.. So I'd say like 700 plus dollars worth of parts I still need

What was $700 before this whole mess was a less than stellar AR, unless it was a stripped down model like the M&P15 Sport. The normal price for the good name ARs ranged from $1-3k. A good quality BCM or Daniel Defense has always been $1200-$1600. Paying $1200 now isn't too bad. Of course, if it's $1200 for a cheap AR, then it is a ripoff.
If you need an AR, buy one. Individual components are all being diverted to new rifle production. If you are missing certain parts, like a LPK or BCG, you're going to be waiting a LONG time. I'd buy the rifle and KEEP the components for a second rifle for later. Or for repairs if ever needed.
