Don't get all worked up cause we don't agree.
Apparently you give a sh*t since you've posted here more than once. I can agree to disagree. What annoys me is that the argument you present isn't even logical.

The whole point of this thread is about a mod that introduces sound into the cabin. It's a $100 piece of oem hardware and does what it's supposed to do, nothing more, nothing less. And you don't like the mod, that's cool. But what's your answer to it? To go purchase an exhaust, in order for it to properly sound like a BMW? Why not offer up a s65 swap while you're at it?

This mod doesn't claim any hp gains but at $100, you're suggesting to spend $800 on a mod that does something else? Why is this mod even being compared to an exhaust? And then to top it off, you implied this mod cheapens your BMW yet you have no problem installing a $38 eBay mod.

Don't like the mod, fine leave it as that. But don't add anything else unless it makes sense.

My Ride: makes my pants tight
I've only read the last two post here, but: Always arguing.

I like the sound compared to my old E46. Would I retrofit it for the money, nah.

Kinda off topic but does anyone know why the m54 in the z4's puts out more power than an m54 out of an e46?!

Pretty sure they are the same. Aerodynamics channeling air into the intake differently might allow some difference, but not much. The biggest factor in performance is the better power to weight ratio. My 3.0 does 0-60 in 5.5

Bringing up this thread from the dead wondering if anyone has looked more into this? Or to introduce it to some new guys since this was posted.

Z4 owners thank you very much for chiming in! Much appreciated!

Nay-Sayers: We can hardly even call it a mod. The only mod about it is retrofitting it into our chasis. Its an OEM part, designed by BMW.

I personally haven't yet done it all this time later because money became too tight to justify it. :/ Still would love to do it though.

I want to do this rather than an exhaust. Why? because this is actual INDUCTION noise and by extension it's ENGINE noise. An exhaust blurs an engines true sound whereas an intake focuses it.

Performance intakes for the most part serve to amplify induction sound by physical design, and this sound generator is a further development of that design.

This is pretty cool I might try it. I always wondered why z4's sound so different inside the cabin.

I can't find a good easy diy for this.
There are 2 methods of this mod for e46:
1. http://www.bmw-syndikat.de/bmwsyndik...?TOPIC_ID=8039 Tube goes through firewall behind the computer box somehow, but some pics are missing in this diy.
2.Tube goes over the engine then through firewall behind the glove box area. I dont like this because the long ugly tube over the engine.

I want to to the first method but I dont know what rubber boot to use and how should I go through the firewall with the tube. Any ideas?

I finally installed the mod, I used the rubber boot of the 325ti.
The sound is awesome, you can hear a very clear beautiful engine sound when pushing the pedal. Otherwise it's quiet, so not annoying at long drives.

Wow I'm very interested. Sounds like a nice mod as opposed to a cai. You should make a diy

I couldn't find a guide for going through the electric box so I routed the hose over the engine and behind the glove box.
It was very easy, the hardest part was finding a hose which is cheap, flexible and can withstand the engine heat.
The current hose fits these requirements but it's ugly as f..k so I'm still looking for a better one.

Thats a silicone hose, can be found in many colors. I wanted black but found this cheap 135 blue elbow so I bought it.
It's not that visible anyways when the whole thing is built in.

The 330i have a larger diameter rubber boot then the 325ti so the mod is a little trickier for that (Z4 rubber boot or cutting into the original).
