Welded diff vs LSD

I keep going back and forth on what to do. It is my daily driver but I'm starting to drift my car more and more? Iv herd don't welded it if it's a daily and Iv also herd that it will be fine. Someone with knowledge/ experience on this feel free on your opinion. Also I have found a few lsd's online between 1,100 to about 2,000 what did you spend on yours and where?

There are Pros & Cons to each, search this subject in the Driveline sub forum.

Good luck.

You'll lose a lot of comfort welding the open diff. Mainly every turn will drag the inside tire which means screeching and juttering through the car. I'm sure there is some half shaft wear and tire wear to factor in there too. There will be a ton of consistency in your rear traction however (meaning the lack of when sliding).

LSD make daily driving great, however consistency isn't always there when you want both tires to spin (depends on your lockup ratio). I'm sure someone will have an opinion on the perfect LSD % for drifting.

Given how cheap the open diffs are, I say pick up an extra and weld it. See how it is and if it fits your usage. I have friends who daily on welded diffs because they are too cheap and they seem to tolerate it just fine. I've never been into that though.

Okay awesome. Do you run a LSD yourself?

All have stock BMW LSD, yes. The 96 will see an upgrade to 40% locking (25% stock).

Welded is super cheap but it eats up your CV-joints real fast. You have to avoid sharp turns at all costs if you want to save them.

On a daily driver a limited slip would be a much better choice.

Keep in mind that you will see increased amounts of rear tire wear with a limited slip, I can only imagine the affect would be multiplied if it was welded and there was zero slip.

I'd never weld the diff on a daily or street car, you'll ruin the ability to take turns.

Personally, my advice is to spend the money on some spelling lessons, and punctuation marks.

Seriously, this is a question?

Sad, isn't it? My niece is 3 years old and can put together a more coherent sentence, spelling and all.

OP, whoever was your English teacher in school should be fired.

Yea, its called creating the thread while in class on my phone. Trying not to get caught because that teacher will kick me out. why I didn't wait? because like all of us we love our cars more then school. plus I am sure I got auto corrected a bit.

But anyways thanks for all the input for those of you who actually contributed.

one more question do I need to get a dyno tune after, or do anything with the gearing?

No.

But a Shark Injector would still be a great mod for what you're doing.

No. Why would this affect your engine?

You are in school so you can learn how to spell, so you can get a good job, so you can make enough money to buy something better than a decade old "Driving Machine" that costs more money to keep on the road than the money you'll make at McDonalds after you get kicked out of school.

Get your focking priorities straight kid! If you get kicked out of school for wasting time on forums, how long do you thing you'll last at a job? People don't hire people to surf the interweb on car forums.

I didn't lose it. I care. Ever hear your father talk this way?

You've got a pretty good head on your shoulders, despite what Mdy says. I didn't have three cars by the time I was 19 (not at the same time, anyway).

Others, they need help.
