My Ride: 2003 330i ZHP
My sport package was a 2001. The early 330's had an "overboosted" steering rack, which was changed to be a bit firmer later, but the actual ratio wasn't changed, except with the ZHP. I got the rack that replaced the overboosted rack for owners who complained, but it was definitely slower (as in more turns lock-to-lock) than the ZHP.

The Zhp control arms along with the thicker steering wheel might give the impression that it's faster idk. From my understanding, the early 330's had a different rack, but the 2 facelift sport packs that I've seen have the exact same part number... I don't see how they could be different with the same part #

^ Winner, my 330xi (08/2001) Had the boosted racked as well. Many complained about it. You can in fact get the other rack installed for free at a dealer. (Not sure if that is still warranted) I didn't mind the boosted rack, I now use a 99 328i rack. Very "small" differences between the two. I've also found that identical parts have different part numbers depending on there destination. IE an M54B30 manifold from an x5 is the same manifold from a 330 but they have different part numbers and even different letting on the manifolds. One from m54 x5 has an 'O' marking the m54 330 has a 'B' marking. Bmw does a lot of silly tings.

Maybe 2 part numbers can be different for the "same" thing, but I can't see 1 part number being the same for two different parts.

I actually havent done much research on racks other than if the zhp one is better or not. I would hope to think it is so I could upgrade, but so far I havent seen any hard evidence that it's different than what I have on my car..thats all.

The part number for a vanilla 330 rack is the same part number for a 330 ZHP rack.

Just FYI.

Black headliner and researching steering racks don't give you more NA power.

Cams. Now!

haha, well whatever the part numbers say, I feel like the proof is pretty clear when you drive them.

I remember hopping out of my sport package and into a student's ZHP and turning right into cones at an autocross. Both 330's, both stockish suspension, (at the time) clearly different steering ratios. (to me)

A re-tune from AA, new vanos seals, and lightweight flywheel/clutch will

But yea my clutch about to go...I thought I could hold it off til after I get cams but I've gotta do that first now. I'll be doing another dyno early september once I get those other things on.

Got the tune back and it feels GREAT!! It sounds different too, I'm guessing because they played with the timing. I can't wait for another dyno.

Sorry Rob, nothing yet. I've been wanting to go to the same shop that Jeremy (JELBMW330I) went to for his dyno, but they're kinda far from me and my schedule isnt helping either.

when do you suspect? i'm DYING to see what cams do and if it was the tune that had your hp/tq numbers so low?

i figured you'd be pulling ~250whp/tq at least by now?

I think if I got on the right dyno, I would do at least 225whp. The stupid dynojet I was using dyno's low for some reason. Had about 2 other guys say the same thing. They went to a different place and made about 10-15whp more...using the same correction factor SAE.

Guy's to be honest, I havent had time to work on the car much. My school semester is taking away any free time I have. So for now the dyno isn't going to happen

I've decided that if I do anymore work to the car it'll be a turbo or supercharger. I'm starting to get greedy for big power.
