bmw scanner 1.4

this may be a repost of similar information, but i thought i'd share.

below are a few useful screenshots from a bmwscanner 1.4, which can be had off ebay from greater asian countries for fairly cheap. this thing has already paid itself off in saved frustration of being able to turn certain things off:

central body electronics control, i was able to turn off the autolocking after certain speed here:

EWS starter lock parameters:

adding/removing keys , says i have 3 keys, i only have 2. what the ****.

instrument cluster coding, i turned my "automatic transmission" off, which basically turned the gear number/steptronic indicator and the gear thing dark

i guess you can change the service intervals as well. also notice the distance/speed stuff in the 2nd column, looks like that's a way to recalibrate the speedometer/odometer.

and the light control module recoding, this is where i turned off the daytime running lights, i guess a bunch of other things are also possible, but i've not bothered with them:

hopefully some people will find this useful. there are a bunch of other modules that have option to change the coding in them, but there's no gui to do so, it would have to be done in hex, for that one has to know the format of the small bit of hex that is downloaded, and then upload it back to that module to make the changes permanent.

i should also mention that this device will give you all the errors returned by all the modules, as well as show you more engine information (live data) than you could possibly know what to do with (oil temperature also, which is neat)

Thanks to you, I got the same scanner. It is a china copy of expensive P.A.soft scanner. If you plan on being around E46 cars for while it is well worth the investment.

Gurov can you provide info on pinout to make a bench conections for DME?

Hi Guys. I have this scanner from china and have a Problem: in my car 1999 323i Manual it only detect DME Module and on another 2000 323i Auto it only detect DME and Electronic Transmission (Gearbox) modules and in a 2002 X5 it detects all the modules.

What can be the problem? Maybe This scanner only work with latest E46?

PD: I Test in Windows 7 and Vista same problem.

You need a OBD to 20-pin socket adapter to access the other modules.

20-pin is the Round Socket in the front? And do you have any pinout to convert it?

Thanks

Yea the round socket under the hood. I don't personally know the pinout (my car's new enough for everything to work through the OBDII port), but I'm sure a google search could find it. You can also probably just buy an adapter on eBay for a couple dollars

Interesting stuff, do you know if this can be used to get the traction/stability control to "hold" its' setting after the car has turned off?
