I just put over size washers on the rear deck speakers.

I made my own connectors with sta-kon (crimp on) to adapt to bmw connectors. BMW speaker connectors are different.
Hope that helps.

4 ohms, yes!

yes, the speakers are 4 ohm.
A previous owner had installed a single din Head Unit, Kenwood with a flip out screen. It was a simple decision to replace the unit with an android after market touch screen unit. Since, the car didn't have a stock HU, the next logical move was to replace the speakers.

JL Audio TR650-CSi for the rear deck
Alpine SPS-610C front door panels. I replaced the OEM tweeters with the included Alpine tweeter.

The Head Unit is an Erisin 9212a, which I updated the firmware (->2.22) and to andriod 4.44. Two negatives about the unit - no auto dimmer for the touch screen (there is an app for that). and Boot-up time is ~30-45 seconds before the music starts.

I felt your same pain - I'm very happy with my $22 solution - http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1081044.
I also used washers to mount the front speakers, for the rears I simply nested the speakers in insulation the fit is snug enough that screws were not necessary. I have a 2000 323ci Convertible so the speaker sizes may be different.
