After 145,000 miles, the car is not as quick as it was brand new, but it is still a joy to drive (the manual makes a big difference!) There are some dings and scratches, but the paint is otherwise in great shape as I detail it twice a year (clay/polish/wax). No engine problems whatsoever, never had any VANOS problems either.

Let me know if you would like to take a look! Thanks.

Decided I would post some photos documenting the "life & times" of my car...

Bought used @ 30,000 miles, nearly brand new condition:

BBS LM Replica wheels and M-Tech II kit (note the European spec front bumper which does not have the US-spec orange reflectors). The wheels were also originally silver as you can see in these photos.

Sparco Imola seats! Definitely one of my favorite mods. Sourced from OG Racing in Sterling, VA, these early production seats have the rare grey on black color scheme, whereas the later production version was actually all grey with black inserts. I have yet to see this color combo of Imola seat anywhere in the world...

Pyrotechnics transferred from stock seats:

BMW airbag occupancy sensor installed:

Original OEM leather/heated/memory sport seats out!

I'd love to see your car before you sell it. That is if you have the time. Chik fil a near dulles, va your house--anywhere!

I might even go as far as selling my car and getting yours. Yours looks much more well taken care of (cosmetically) then mine when I first bought it.

looks like the only thing your car needs is an engine refresher ( which i've already done on mine ) and you've taken care of all the cosmetic mods and I'm sure I can get an extra 100k well taken care of miles out of your car in my hands! ( before the engine needs a rebuild.)

FWIW, you will rest in peace knowing your car is in good hands!

You will probably even get to see it every friday at chik fil a or cars and coffee at katies; pretty much all BMW meets around VA, MD etc

Your progress pictures are the ones who did it for me and put me at ease; looks like everything was done properly.

Have you ever had the rear sub-frame checked? Ever overheated? service history? rust?

I can't stress it enough but I must see this car!!

* I'm serious about doing the above if your car absolutely blows me away. If it blows me away consider it sold! I've got everything lined up and I'm local!.

Check your PM!

No sub-frame damage, no overheating, no rust... always serviced by me (I have the tools/manuals/Peake FCX and SRS tools as well).

I looked at the car it and it looks great! FWIW the car has an 03/2001 build date. The car will require maintenance engine wise to get the most performance out of it. The differential is slightly wet with oil and the strut towers have bulged (mushroomed) slightly.

I'm still giving it a thought and debating on getting it and performing all of the items below; again .

The car will basically need the following to make it a GREAT solid DD,

-new vcg (it is starting to leak very slightly)
-take out CDV valve
-DME update
-VANOS seals
-check disa, clean Throttle housing and ICV.
-strut tower reinforcement plates
-check and inspect rear suspension bushings and replace as needed
-fuel filter
-CCV valve and hoses
-cooling system for peace of mind
-Maybe keep a close eye on the clutch since it does have 140k miles

A small price to pay for the items above IMO, if you DIY that is...

Justin,

If it doesn't sell tonight I'd like to take the car to DIY auto by chik fil a and take a closer look at the underside of the car.

Thanks for taking a look at the car today George. I hope your post wasn't intended to discourage other buyers who aren't DIYers like us...

Anyways:

-new vcg (it is starting to leak very slightly) - as expected for a motor that has never been disassembled for 140,000+ miles
-take out CDV valve - not necessarily NEEDED, more of a desire
-DME update - this would obviously enhance performance, but again, is not NEEDED as the car runs/performs great
-VANOS seals - another situation where "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", more of a preventive maintenance measure
-check disa, clean Throttle housing and ICV. - more of a preventative maintenance measure, as the car idles fine
-strut tower reinforcement plates - ?
-check and inspect rear suspension bushings and replace as needed
-fuel filter - still have a new fuel filter I never installed, another situation of "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
-CCV valve and hoses - ?
-cooling system for peace of mind - been flushed once around 100K mark, never had any cooling problems for the life of ownership
-Maybe keep a close eye on the clutch since it does have 140k miles - agreed... never have replaced the clutch, but it still functions properly with no slip

These would be items to complete if you are looking to increase the performance of the car as it has naturally degraded from when it was new, however are not REQUIRED.

Absolutely not! those were just the items I would personally replace on it--I'm very anal about maintaining my cars--. It's merely a list any buyers can work off of.

Although, I do believe your car should go to a DIY'er! Let me know this evening if the car is still for sale.
