Nice work, dude. Good speed. Is that a solo ride or were you with a group?

Solo. I'm hoping to keep that kind of speed all summer, we'll see.

I rode the 63 mile route at Tour de Fire this weekend. This is a ride I tried to do last year, but between the wind and the climbing, I gave up early.

This year, I completed the whole 63 mile ride. It was no damn joke. There was quite a bit of climbing, but I've gotten my fat ass into better shape since my aborted attempt last year. The morning was really nice weather, but the wind came up in the afternoon, and as luck would have it, it was out of the W/SW, so it was a headwind on the return trip. There's also climbing back to the start, which was straight into the steadily increasing wind. So that part sucked.

Only a few miles into the ride, my rear brake started howling, so I had to stop and pick shards of something out of the pad on one side. Not sure if they were aluminum shards from the braking surface of the wheel, or a little fleck of something else that got in there. But it was a minor issue, easily fixed in a few minutes.

Regardless, I got it done and there's no doubt it's a beautiful ride.

From the Start at Lake Las Vegas, we headed first to the SW to join the River Mountains Loop Trail which we followed down almost to Boulder Beach at Lake Mead, then took Lakeshore Rd back to the NW, then an out-and-back along Northshore Rd before returning to Lake Las Vegas.

Total Time: 6:54:16
Moving Time: 5:22:43

Avg Speed: 9.2 mph
Avg Moving Speed: 11.8 mph

Turtle>me. Stopped for 14 minutes early on to fix my brake. Spent about 15 minutes at the turnaround rest stop. The rest of that stopped time was short stops at the other rest stops and very short stops when the uphill/upwind stretches were kicking my ass. But it adds up to a lot of 0 mph elapsed time.

It misses you, too. It told me so. Lol

The 113 mile route riders went all the way up into Valley Of Fire, where I think the scenery is even better than what I saw.

I don't know if I could ever do something like that because my body shuts down if I exercise before 1 or 2 in the afternoon. I'll feel like sh!t the rest of the day.

I was saving for a all cabon bike, but I just couldnt pass this deal up. The guy bought this bike in 2009 for about $1000.00 He only had about 20 mile on it when I found it last year. Picked it up for $300.00.

^^^ I have been very happy with my Allez. I dream about having a full carbon bike with all the goodies, but in all honesty, I really can't complain about the way my bike rides. It's been terrific.

And thats a wicked deal on what's essentially a brand new bike. Yay for people that buy nice stuff, never use it, then sell it for cheap.

Tour de Fire is in the spring each year. Keep an eye on the website, or on Active.com, or maybe email them to get added to their email list.

The big Vegas ride every year is the RTC Viva Bike Vegas ride in the fall, Sept 21 this year. It also has some great routes, including riding along the Strip. The 60 and 103 mile routes go out to Red Rock and then down to Boulder City, so they've got pretty good scenery.

Well it really helped that I had a solid half mile downhill section where I was cruising ~30mph. You can see the double peaks where I went downhill, it flattens out for a bit, and then downhill again.
