CCFL vs LED halos

I just purchased a 2001 330ci in orient blue metallic. I wanted to install halos on her.. I've been reading up on a few DIY's of how to do it, but now I'm caught between getting blue CCFL halos which I think would look great with orient blue or just 6000k LED's. I'm leaning to CCFL's because the price is significantly cheaper and I think blue would look awesome. But I wanted to know a few differences between the two.

Thanks

I had CCFLs on my E36. They worked periodically and DID NOT work in the winter unless I held my hand in front of the light to warm them up. It usually took five minutes. Needless to say, I ditched them for city lights.

My 330ci had Weisslicht LEDs. They cost $100 and worked perfectly every time,

Ccfl are unreliable. Also they can catch fire and your car will be gone.
LEDs are more reliable, always stay cool (temp wise), and will not catch fire deeming good wiring practice.

Get the LEDs and be happy.

I'd been looking for a while here coz I wanted to find AEs in different diameters so I can do two AEs in each headlight. That's simple enough, but now I'm trying to find what Kelvin temp I need to get them to glow green...dark green...Fern Green. Any help with that? If I can't get green...not really any point.

Also, anyone know if I can get green tint to cover my corner lights...the amber is wearing on me. But, if I cover it with blue tint, maybe it'd show green?

All my way, OP, of saying, "no."

Read more fanatics...much more. New car, new here, you need to do many other things...I know you want to do this light thing, but you really need to do more.

Merc was 'sort of' right with his coolant/oil idea...just don't mix those fluids!

I put on my ride the CCFL 6000k because it came with some ugly yellow ones and never had an issue with this! What people here say is true LED are better but is you want cheaper get ccfl! I have mine for almost 8 months already and 0 issue!

When I bought the car I did an oil change (mobile synthetic 1) I redid the braking system, put I brand new tires and replaced all the belts. Some were slightly worn out and I didn't want any problems in the future. She now runs great!

You probably have much more to go maintenance wise (i.e. suspension, fuel filter, pump, spark plugs, vanos seals, etc.). So don't be too sure you are all caught up. Here is a general outline of maintenance that you could look into. This is a simple list I found early on when I first joined: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=595553

That being said, don't do CCFL's they are unreliable. Next on the list, don't choose blue halos regardless of CCFL or LED. They are illegal. I had them at first when I first got AE's. Never got a ticket, but a cop I spoke with said they would get me into trouble eventually. So just avoid it now, before getting a ticket. Your best bet is LED's.

Congrats on the new car. Enjoy. These cars are always fun to drive.

The M1 5/30 or 0/40? (If 5/30, read my thread...search me and M1 5w/30)

If you want that, put smoke tint...and put blue bulb there...trust me, it would be green. Maybe even close to fern green, but that would depend on how dark the tint is.

if you live in CT then it's probably better to go with the LED ones. CCFL aren't great in cold climates and need ballasts to power them. the ballasts are known to go out and then you have to keep replacing over the years. LED style don't take ballasts. but then they also don't light up a tube but are light dots on a ring.

CCFL ones look more original equipment imho. but since these were never oe on the E46 i guess you can argue either point then.

either way don't go blue please, that would look cheap and illegal in most states to have blue lights which are for emergency/police vehicles.

Predator Orion V2 from www.Umnitza.com . that is what you want and need. I had my set in my 330 for years in CT,then pulled them out and installed in my M for the last year or so. They look and work great all the time. Doing maintenance work on an e46 is 100% on par with chasing the dragon (being addicted to heroin) it doesn't matter how much you have done-you still need to do more. Take a break from that smack and get some angel eyes.
