Thanks.

Yes, the rainbow of light above the cutoff is the squirrel finder. However, it is modified on this RX projector because I didn't like having a box of light. I pushed the squirrel finder down and got this rainbow effect, which is nice, but disappears with a clear lens.

nice project. had OEM halogen, P46 with 5000k H7, and now OEM projectors with 6000k DS2, and your pretty spot on with the summation that the P46 is not much better than the OEM halogen... modern look and nice color but output and dispersion of light is poor.

it's ok. i made it back then when projectors cost a lot so i only stuck to using e46 projectors. i aimed the inners downward more so that it can be used more like inner fogs (jdm style). but with all the shutters up it's bright as hell lol

what sucks is that it's made for a sedan, and i now have an FL coupe lol

I picked up a set of P46 for under $100.
What projector do you recomend I put in. How difficult is a retrofit.

i hate when someone asks that question. because honestly, it's easy for me. but it depends on your skill level and how creative you are at solving problems. i would pick up a pair of mini's, those are like the easiest projectors to retro imo.

I'm sure many people will be "perfectly happy" with their p46s, but I'm here to tell everyone that they're not as good as OEM projectors which is the reason why many people want to buy these in the first place.

Also, OEM HID systems only use D*S bulbs (D1S, D2S, D3S, D4S). You will never ever ever ever see a car manufacturer with an H7 HID kit in a car that is sold on showroom floors because halogen projectors are not made to spread the HID light properly.

no they don't, but it's easier to retrofit into than any other projector since it's so small.

i can do that with the tsx lol but his pictures are overexposed. when you look at it in person, it's not that intense. even the fx w/ e30 lenses aren't that intense.

If you want actual bright low beam projectors, then you could use a 50W ballast with Philips DL50 bulbs (rare and uber $$$) or a cheapie 50W HID kit with D2S bulbs.

But that would be stupid.

Also, any HID projector with a clear lens will be able to give you a very sharp cutoff with color.

I wanted projectors because they make angel eyes look much more distinct and sexy time

thanks, I might need to retro them regardless. My Bosch reflector bowl is getting dull when I took them apart.

just polish them a little. nothing too harsh or the chrome will come off. and it should be fine.

So I've had some time to try and mount the projectors. I think my worst skill during retrofits is rotational alignment. It's such a PITA to get right.

Anyways, the passenger side was "mounted" to the car and tested. The rotation needs to be tweaked just a few degrees clockwise, so I'll be working on that tonight.

OEM Bosch bixenon with ZKWR lenses, Philips 85122+ bulbs:

Just the RX330 projector in p46 housing, Osram 66040 bulb:

Comparing head on:

Don't mind the off-color of the Osram bulb. It has many many hours on it. So, yeah, just gotta fix the rotation and then it will be ready for buttoning up. Then I'll be starting on the driver side headlight.

Low beam:

This is how I've aimed the low beam in respect to high beam:

I have the passenger side headlight almost completed. It's ~95% there. Here are a few more comparison photos.

p46 with H7 HID kit left, RX330 with Osram 66040 bulb right; both are using the same brand/model aftermarket 35w ballasts:

With high beams on, to show that the RX330 is aimed almost the same as the p46 was in relation to high beam. I have made this adjustable, though, so if anybody thinks I need to aim the low beam higher/lower in relation to the high beam, let me know:

Doesn't look nearly as cool with the lens on since it's in pretty bad shape:

"Completed" headlight on left (with headlight lens mounted), unmodified P46 on right (no headlight lens):

Again, same thing as above, but now with the CCFLs activated in the "completed" headlight. Not sure if I like this look as it seems too busy now:
