lol, looking at the far inside wall of that engine bay, there is an early model BMW diagnostics port just like in an E46 323i. Haha, guess the engine was more of a drop-in unit from BMW than I thought. Probably runs similar sensors and everything.

I found a pretty cool trick to detailing the engine... disconnected battery - give a few minutes to discharge - and wrap anything you dont want hit with water (alternator, exposed wires, etc...) with aluminum foil. Easy to wrap and remove/discard.

Clean. Rinse. Then dry off with one of these:



Then remove foil.

LOL, why do people keep wrapping their alternator in foil? Alternators are splash and spray resistant, and some come near to being water proof. Get a small piece of aluminum foil inside the alternator, and you risk doing a lot more damage than water.

Same goes for the rest of the engine bay...
