Maybe i'm just paranoid... maybe NOT!?

I have this transmission/TC problem....I think...

I'll try to explain it the best I can.
2001 325i A/T

When turning a corner at about 10-20mph, and then easing into throttle, the car does not shift down a gear, even if I give it 1/2 throttle. I'd say it down shifts if I give it 3/4 throttle. Easing into the gas gives me hardly any pickup at all. This does not happen when accelerating normally from stop, only when coasting at 20ish MPH and easing back into throttle.

It doesn't feel right, maybe it's because the is my first BMW, but I doubt it.

It's a 325i.

From a stop it will feel more sudden since you are in 1st gear. Which is shorter than 2nd and 3rd and so on.

You don't have that much power to push you back.

I understand, but it doesn't feel right. I know its not going to LAUNCH me, but it should be boggy when taking a turn at 20mph... I seems like it should be in a lower gear when I get back on the throttle. It stays at like 2k RPMs and doesn't really move much when I press the throttle, also the MPG SINKS, but no power.

Ya, I saw something about that , but no cluster lights on, and I tested the cluster to make sure all bulbs are good.

Hmmm weird. It should be going higher in RPM.

Check for codes.

If there is a code, it wouldn't show as a light on the dash? I can just use a obd2 code reader right?

Could this be a simple fix by just flashing the trans computer or whatever?

You have a lot of maintenance, and searching to do.

By maintenance I meant: vanos, ICV, DISA, check your air filter, oil, transmission oil, differential fluid, fuel filter, might as well do power steering fluid (use auto tranny oil), spark plugs.... those will keep you pretty busy for a while.

I think it sounds normal.. driven a few autos when I was looking for mine and I noticed the same thing.. actually I was suprised how much faster the manual 325s are.. they pull WAY harder than autos..

I don't know why, but I was frightened of saying the same thing! I don't think the car knew you had just turned and wanted to accelerate out of it and so just stayed in 3rd. The manual trans I have somehow always is in the gear I want exactly when I want it.

From your description, your problem seems simply that you drive an auto 325i. Autos upshift automatically around town unless you're standing on the gas pedal. So when you "get back on it," you're trans is probably in 3rd or 4th. At the bottom of your gas pedal travel is a "click" which intiates a full kick down to the shortest gear possible. Relax, nothing is wrong with your car. This is why people buy manuals: to have full control.

I think you guys are right, this is my first auto car since I was 16, I'm 25 now. I noticed that click under the pedal too, I don't try to race this thing or anything I got it for cruising. Thanks for the help! I've had my fix of fast cars
