Exclamation A little help please?

How's it going everyone? I need some assistance troubleshooting an issue that I'm having. I can go to my car & turn the key to the on position... within a couple of minutes, the temperature gauge will go into the red (light & everything)... without even starting the engine. Where do I start to resolve this issue? It seems pretty weird to me, especially since I haven't started the car. I'm home on leave from Germany, and I fly out of here on Tuesday. I need to get this resolved as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for any replies that I may get, it's greatly appreciated.

So the temp gauge goes straight to "H" after sitting off? Sounds like a bad temp sensor.

Yep; That's what I sort of thought it could be, but I just decided to ask to be sure. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

Curtis,

Welcome home! Too bad your car didn't!

How long had the car been sitting and had you had any cooling issues in the past?

IIRC there are a few temp sensors but I think it's the lower radiator hose sensor that signals the temp gauge.

But, if car had been idle for any length of time, I'd first check level and condition of all fluids, and try starting it (sounds like you haven't). If it doesn't start, try a jump and then drive for a while to charge battery.

Often electric glitches are just the battery. Try wiggling the connections...though I'm sure if it had been idle while you were away, you would have disconnected it.

Probably not much help. The guys that will mock my attempt at helping you will know what it is!

Silly question, have you checked your fluid level (You'd be surprised!)

Fluids are fine. I'm going to flush & refill the radiator in the next couple of days. This happens even if the car isn't started.

Op,

Try ping shanneba to link.at this. That might be the way sensor indicates failure...as mentioned. My oil level sender is indicating a failure by coming on for 15 sec after start up. Anyway shanneba seems to be really good finding info!

I'm on phone so if I wrote something stupid, it was probably the phone!
