Oil Change question re bmw mann filter

So cahnged my oil yesterday for first time since purchsing my first bmw.

Used Mighty Mac oil extractor....washed out same with water/dishwashing soap per tech support after asking about leaking with mobil 1 0w-40.

just one thing...

i bought the mann oil filter from dealer (omg a resonably priced part form the DEALER! lol). Iput the new o ring as instructed...but there was a second thing in there... a tiny metal washer a little over a centimeter in diameter.

what is it for? oil drain plg??seems kinda small but???

Yes, the washer was to replace the one on the oil drain plug.
