2004 330i w/ 38K mi Hesitation, VANOS?

The car is hesitating under load at 2,000 - 3,000 RPM, intermittently. SES light comes on and off. I've read a lot of posts about VANOS issues and wonder if it could be the issue in my case. Is it probable at 38K miles?

I suggest running the codes and then post the results. It could be at least 20 different things and we could guess at this for the next few weeks and still be wrong.

I scanned the codes with an ODBII and they were 2240 and 2237. I cleared them and after another 150 the light came back on again only to go off on it's own a little later.

Yeah, I was just wondering if it's common for VANOS seals to go out that early.

Your problem isn't vanos seals, those codes would seem to indicate you have a different problem. The codes would seem to indicate a problem being detected at the O2 sensors but it's very unlikely that both have gone bad at the same time and at this low mileage. Further diagnostics will be needed.

yeah, the ECU needed an update, that's it. I ended up paying $300 to get it done. Good luck

Great thanks for the quick reply. I assume it was a dealer only fix since they probably need the right computer etc?
