272 cam?

I'm in the market for a cam and I see you can buy 272s instead of the 264 s I'm wondering if anyone has tried them yet?

They're made to run in a higher RPM band, that your M54 motor was not designed to operate in. Also you'll loose some low end torque. That's why we
all run the Schrick 264 degree (10.5mm lift) intake and 248 degree (10mm lift) exhaust cams.

YES.

But realize that you need to do quite a few things to your motor to really get the benefit from your cams.

1) Cams
2) Header & full exhaust
3) CAI
4) AA software, group buy
5)Pulleys

Options, no WHP, but feels great.
1) LTW flywheel
2) 3.46 Diff
3) LSD

Good Luck

He'll still notice a nice difference from the cams, even if the car is otherwise stock. But you're right, to get the most out of them, headers and tuning.

Aggie, I've read your dyno thread; good info. Kudos for the time and effort you put in to record everything.

I have a 2001 330i as my daily driver and my only gripe is lack of power. I was planning on Schricks, Headers, and software only. I have no intention of putting an exhaust and will likely do a BMW performance intake. Seems to me that cams, headers, and software are the biggest bang from a performance stand point; would you agree based on your experiences?

A light weight flywheel has a huge affect as well.

ok cool and i havent seen any dynos to this date showing + hp from pulleys maybe 1 or 2 but i deem not worth it.. id say best bang for buck would be 3.46 diff and headers.. the lwf and tune

I don't think pulleys are worth it. Has anyone else tried the 264/256 schrick setup?
