Vert owners can you identify this part?

Just curious how savvy you owners and do it yourselfers are. I just replaced this part on my bimmer. Not really a part that you would think needs replacing. See if anybody can figure it out and then ill tell you why I had to replace mine and how you will know if yours needs replacing.

Is that one of the two plastic covers located forward of the top assembly, roughly where a C pillar would be?

You sir are correct. The reason i had to replace mine is because the drivers side was not closing. I checked it and thought the spring broke or came off. Well it did come off because the plastic piece where the spring connects broke. Took me all of 5 minutes to fix. The part was 9 bucks and 9 to ship it so it was about $18 to replace. Whats up with BMWPartsSo***8203;urce.com shipping costs???

If I understand correctly, the two "caps" might be in the car, but slid down under if the closing spring is missing.

So if we're not talking about #10 here:

Sorry...

Try installing it without the springs at first, to get a feel for how to snap the tabs into the right tracks.

Then take it back out and reinstall with the springs.

Both of my covers are sitting in the glove box until I order the springs and rods. With the top down those holes give it a sort of trailer park vibe . Gotta fix it soon.

Did that part happen to come with the springs sleeve and cam follower?

what's all this rod business though? or is it apparent where they go/what they do when I get the tracks cleared up?

Someone should definitely post a video of the latch while its going

I spent 10 minutes yesterday trying to get that sucker back in to place after I accidentally put my hand on it. Good quality...not.

I think the assembly is put together off the car including the large panel at the factory. Reassembling this way would be the easiest. But rather than take off the whole panel you CAN stick the cover and spring back in; you just have to bend and twist the plastic a bit more.

On mine the actual cover broke where the spring connects to it. I thought it was the spring or the rod was broken. I actually bought a new rod thinking mine was broken . When I bought the new rod it was the same size as the original one. Opon further inspection I discovered the broken cover. When I installed mine ( with the topthe half open position)I put the spring and rod on the cover then installed the cover. It took me a couple of tries to line it up in the tracks right then I hooked the spring up.

2 broken caps

Well at first i didn't even notice i had a broken cover on the drivers side, and today the passenger side has seem to snap... Both springs are still attached to the frame and the plastic covers can still slide up/down, so no problem there... Im missing the small hook/hole under the cover that attaches to the spring... So all i need is the plastic covers on realoem #10 ???

How did you get the old covers off?
thanks

Anyone have a close up shot of this and how to pull out? Mine appears to have fallen down inside the whole (ie it doesn't spring up).
