Convertible top problem
I put down my convertible top the other day and it went down all the way and the compartment top closed but then popped back opened. I think it is something to do with the latch. Anyway I brought it to my dealership since it is still covered under my extended warranty. The guy told me that even though I had the extended warranty, it doesn't mean all of the convertible top parts are covered. They needed to inspect what the problem is which means if they find out the part is covered then I just pay the $50 deductible. If it isn't covered then I will be charge $130 inspection fee then if I want them to fix it, there of course will be addition charges. I know there are employees from dealerships, maybe DeSimone BMW, who could provide me with some information on what convertible top parts are covered with the extended warranty. If anyone else knows please let me know.

Check the cables under the rear seat, if they are binding, or came loose from the housing, or are broken, that is probably the issue.
Good luck.

#21 is the motor that moves the cables #24 That open and close the lid latches #19. It's under the rear seat. But be careful, I've read that the plastic cover on the motor holds the drive gear in place, so.... there is a post somewhere that talks about the motor gear slipping out of place so the cables don't close and lock the lid. You may wish to manually drive the cables by using the hex crank. Push the large button to disengage the motor from the gear, and hand crank the gear to see if you can manually lock the compartment lid latches. Good luck. |

This is taken right from the CPO section titled "What is not covered", though I am not sure if that is the same as the extended warranty...

F**K dealers !!! I am so sick of thier BULLSH** of selling people warranties for rediculous amounts of money, and then if a part breaks, its always funny how that particular part isnt covered. Warranties are a scam and people are falling for them all the time. Its just cheaper to fix the problem if it ever occurs then to pay on some rediculous useless warranty. Warranties are for suckers !!!!!
