, but if I recommend or sell something it needs to be on the up and up. Note that myself and many of the other Dynavin dealers are now selling the WinCE navigation programs separate, this isnt us getting greedy, we are paying for the program license. Not to mention that in the future when these things are more mainstream I need to be able to tell the "not so technically inclined" how to get these apps. Its WAY better for me to say, "go to copilots, sygic, igo, whoever, and get the android app", than to say, "go to page 22 of xyz forum and look for the link to the torrent....." But the tricky thing is the Dynavin is not a typical android device and getting apps onto it has proven to be a little more challenging in some cases than on a phone.

Also a heads up for all of you jealous guys watching this.....originally it was my understanding that these android units were a one time deal until later this year when they will go into larger production, turns out dynavin still has enough android parts on hand to do another round of production.....so good news, there are more coming, they will still be super limited availability, but there will be more.....

Nope, it comes with google navigation for android which has fantastic functionality but needs to be tethered for most of it to work.

I just tried that but the unit tells you that you need to download voice guidance from market. It tries to download it automatically but the Market in the Dynavin has very limited apps and the unit could not find the voice guidance software it needed.

Jeff: I was confused, I already solved the issue.
I'm extremely nonplussed by the iPod interface in the 'stereo' half of the unit. I have a couple USB hubs coming next week to try and see what kind of workarounds I can find. |

1. Text to speech (make sure you run this after install then exit out) http://handheld.softpedia.com/progDo...oad-98724.html 2. SpeechSynthesis Data Installer http://code.google.com/p/eyes-free/d...ller_1.0.1.apk 3. Done I have not use it, but after doing those steps the google navigation does not ask to install the TTS app anymore, I just assume that it will work, lol thanks Minh |

forgot to mention that these need to be copy to the SD card. To install it, you need to download a file explorer program from the android market, open the file explorer and find the 2 files. ( for those who have no clue on how to do it)

Ok sweet, found another version of "Sygic.Aura.Drive.2.1.3.Android.apk" Sygic Aura works pretty good, the main Aura app allows downloading of maps per state so your not having to download a huge map file, WA state was around 250MB. My biggest complaint with Aura is that the screen calibration seems a bit off on the menu and I can't see the bottom 1/2 inch or so of the screen I think due to the Andoid Top Bar keeping it down. I couldn't find a way to scale the window size so is there a way to make it the top bar auto hide? I'm still able to press what I think are the CANCEL and OK buttons, you can barely hit the top edge of them on screen. Maybe this is just because of the particular version I have but I've tried 2.1.1 and now 2.1.3, anyhow YAYYYY! OFFLINE GPS!!!
![]() I'm also in the process of trying "Copilot" out, I really love how big the buttons are in the menu, like Pre-School size for easy control while driving ( not that I condone that sort of thing ). It's about 3GB dl for the entire world and not too hard to find out there on the file shares. I noticed in both Aura and Copilot the indicated speed was just about double what I was actually doing. Is this some kind of incompatibility between the GPS and Android side of the unit? Another nice thing about Copilot is that is doesn't suffer from the same window scaling problem as Sygic Aura. Also IMO the look of the map is smoother and cleaner looking in Aura.iGo My Way v8.4.2.124036: It apparently installs ok but then when you open it it keeps asking for you to insert your sd card I also tried another free app on the market called "Locus" which is very very basic and doesn't seem to be nearly as smooth as "Aura" or "Copilot". I've also tried a couple basic GPS Trail tracker apps from the "Market" called "Maverick" and "My Trails" that have some neat breadcrumb and location monitoring features that seem to function pretty well for what they're worth but without POI and voice guided directions found in typical Nav apps. Oh I had one thing I almost forgot to ask, this might be a silly question but how do I kill the sound coming from the radio side while I'm in navi mode. I was trying to just hear the sexy Nav voice direction over the radio and I couldn't figure out how to isolate the volumes, k thanks. Back to the garage buh bye ![]() oh yea I've been using the Android Music app reading from the SD card and OH my it is like night and day versus the units iPod mode, and yes I am ordering my SanDisk 32GB microSDHC Memory Card, $57.25 right after I finish this post, much fun, enjoy! Aura.....hahahaha.... I fought with that program all day and got nowhere and then I come in the house, read StrikeTwo's post, exactly right about the screen being shifted down so you cant see the OK button, as soon as i read that, i went outside, got it up and running within minutes. Nice program, smooth, simple, intuitive.... But will better if we can get it optimized for the dynavin
![]() StrikeTwo, To kill the radio side sound just play something in android OR leave the radio side source on aux or ipod or one of the other "silent" sources. Ive got a 16gb card in there now but yeah, 32gb would be better, that would be plenty of space for music plus apps and Nav.

Okay lady's and gentlemen, I managed to get my hands on the latest firmware update from Dynavin themselves. I Zipped it up and uploaded it to multiple sources online for all of us to enjoy and use.
PS: Full credit for the assist for ANYTHING we have done up until now goes to Jeff, just because he's tha sh!t! =D IMPORTANT MESSAGE: This firmware upgrade is for the ANDROID based units ONLY! do not make a mistake and upload it to the Windows CE based Unit! 5/04/2011 Download Links: MediaFire / zSHARE / MegaUpload / SlingFile ------------------------------------------------- Note: The date is when the firmware Upgrade was released according to the file name I received from Dynavin. These are the instructions I received from Jeff on how to install the firmware: 1) Download The Firmware 2) Unzip / Unrar the firmware 3) Copy all the small files to the root of the sd card that came with your dynavin, the SD card is in a special format that is sent from dynavin, the end user can not format it. 4) Insert the SD card back into the unit and then turn the unit on 5) It will start to autoupdate, if you are on one of the other sources press the navi button to see that android is updating. 6) When it is done it will prompt you to remove the SD card and restart the unit. The unit will take A LONG time to boot the first time after the firmware update. Once you are finished with the update remove the update files from the SD card so that you can continue to use the card for other purposes. Last edited by TheKingSim0n; 05-08-2011 at 05:23 PM. |

Make sure NOT to format the original SD card that came with the Dynavin. If you format it you will not be able to upgrade the firmware. Everything else would still work such as apps, mp3, pics, etc its just the firmware upgrade part of the system that will not be able to read it.

So I successfully installed the unit and updated the firmware, but now I can't get past the Touch Screen Calibration on the Android side.
It starts the calibration with the target symbols going from the corners and center, and I merrily tap away at them, but they repeat ad infinitum. Thought that maybe the firmware update didn't work quite right, so I rebooted the update, and still the problem persists. ?_? |
