Quick questions:

Do you guys use E46-R or E46-R Extended shrouds? If extended, do you use the shroud centric rings?

Im doing the Mini H1 and FX-R retro, should I get E46-R shrouds for both?

It says in the 1st post that this retrofit wont have the auto-levelling feature. Why not?

my e46-r extended fit the Mini H1 only with the black adapter ring. Also had to cut off about .5" across the top of the shroud to fit my halogen housing. The cut is invisible.

For those of you who are thinking about doing this mod I would recommend getting the morimoto 3five ballasts from TRS. I wouldn't trust the cheap ddm ballasts, the morimoto ballasts are working great for me with no bulb out warnings or flickering when plugged into the stock wiring harness. Ofcourse they cost twice as much but after reading about all the flickering problems people were having with the ddm ballasts I steered away from those. You get what you pay for I guess.

The ones you have should work fine. All you have to do is break the tabs inside the shroud and rtv the mounting rings in place smooth side facing out and they slip right over the projectors perfectly...I didn't even need to glue mine they fit so well. Somebody posted some pics on how to do this earlier in the thread.

here's the plastic "o rings". the e46 shrouds come with clips on the inside that theoretically should mount to something but they don't so you hould break them off...

next just push the o ring into the shroud with the smooth side facing out like this. the ring goes in nicely and fits snug and will make mounting/centering the shroud easier. it also makes siliconing the setup easier as now there is actually somewhere for the silicon to go ...

NOT like this ...

then put the shroud and o ring onto the projector. fits nice and securely even without siliconing yet. you'll still want to sillicon the shroud to the o ring before putting on the projector and then the o ring to the projector once all in place...

here's a little something else i grabbed while doing this diy. some white brights and some yellow fogs...

hope this helps!....
Do this

This thread was definitely helpful in doing my retrofit. But decided to go with the FX-R retrofit since I had P46's already. The lighting difference is amazing! Used this and 2 other threads as references.

I'm assuming you have the mini h1 projectors?

The solenoid shield in the projector can get slightly stuck in a slightly forward position, resulting in a yellow/orange cutoff. If you carefully bend the shield back and make sure its in the correct position, your cutoff will turn to a blue/purple. It literally takes very little to bend it back, less than 1mm of movement, but believe me, it makes a difference.
