Bixenons definitely do have high beam bowls. They're used for flash to pass operation.

Reason why i painted my highbeam bowls was because i really don't use them...i know Im sacrificing light output but its alright...plus if you enabled bixenons then you really have no use for them

I am highly considering doing this mod in the coming week. I have a pair of 6000K Predator Orion V2's coming in from Umnitza and this seems like a great complement to the AEs. My question is, I have 6000K AEs coming, so I would like to get 8000K HIDs to give the projector a nice blue tint to it. Will this effect night time visibility? Will this look good? Where could I buy a pair of H1 8000K HIDs? Many people have bashed DDM tuning in this thread, but have not listed or advised of other places to buy from.
Thanks! Last edited by a325h; 07-11-2011 at 12:55 PM. |

if i were you, id stick to 6000k hid's, i personally think anything above 6k is just for show. and as far as getting the hid's you can get them anywhere. ddm-tuning.com, theretrofitsource.com, ebay.com (but i recommend you not), retrosolutionsllc.com, just to name a few. i would recommend you getting a pair of hid's with some warranty on it.

Has everyone so far painted the hi beam housing? I'm think I don't want to paint it, instead keep it OEM. If I don't paint it, should i bother painting the shroud?
What combination would give me more of an OEM look?

xi, I was trying this DIY out the other day and I could not get the tightener on the back of the projector to get tight enough with the large white rubber peice on the inside. I know that I could just use the smaller one, but it doesn't let the projector sit far enough up in the shroud.
Do you have any suggestions?

use a small needle nose pliers, it should do the trick to make it tighter.

I was using needle nose and I tightened it to the point that it was starting to peel off plastic from the back of the housing. I should note that my headlights do look a little bit different than yours.

Diy hid
wow and WOW--for a first diy-very ambitious and very beautiful--i have a technical question--don't laugh--do the lights/ballast/etc draw MORE or LESS current thru your electrical system--i know they draw 12 volts but how many amps--am thinking about an install on an antique VW Thing--want more headlight throw but cant afford any more current draw on the system--

I personally like having a ton of light, so I've instead configured it so that the halogens and bixenons always fire together. Last edited by TerraPhantm; 08-01-2011 at 02:09 AM. |

Completely forgot to post pictures up here >_< I'm just fixing my radiator, will post pics up in the next few days. Must say.. Mini really does hold up; seems brighter than OEM xenon lights haha, the 6000k bulbs add a nice purple flicker when driving, and lights up the road, with or without the bi-xenon function.
I'm really pleased with buying them and recommend TRS for future buys. Matt has great customer service skills. If anyone else wants i can post more pictures up with installing the lights, if anything is missing
