Yes, I do. As someone said earlier, Alpine products have been in decline lately.

This is the Pioneer I have in the E30, it works great and sounds great.

I purchased a JVC KDA805 single din unit and I love it. No screen but its everything you could want in a head unit with a OEM look. BT with A2DP protocol for BT streaming audio from iphones/droids. 1/8th inch and USB input in the front. Has like 40 color selections and one matches the bmw interior orange lights perfectly. Could not be happier with my purchase.

I have, all it takes is a simple reset of the unit. I have always had pioneers in all my cars but I thought I would try this unit. I have a pioneer dex-p99rs unit in another car and that unit is a true headunit!

About the same as the HK....and their speakers suck in the BMW about as much as BOSE in American cars. Right now I have a Kenwood headunit in the 911....but stereo is always a pissing match. Unless you have a total hand picked setup with all different speakers...anything sounds about the same with BMW speakers. With my Kenwood....still sounds like crap in the Porsche....OEM speakers and amp make that happen. No way around that. Gut the system and get it all redone....not cheap...but I still say the Dynavin is great for a STOCK system. You will not get any nav unit that will fit in and look stock for $600. If you can...show me.

Bose, infinity, monsoon, jbl etc premium sound systems are good compared to the plain stock junk. They are obviously inferior to any high dollar aftermarket system but they are good for what they are. When you upgrade your head unit you need to interface with the factory amp in order for it to sound at all decent. Tourists figure, the aftermarket head is putting out roughly 2x as much power as the oem alone which will fairly well overdrive most stock speakers at higher volume. Really, anytime someone upgrades their head unit, they should upstage their speakers too.

Considering you have a stock amplifier, right? Just as many people don't.

Honestly, I had a 600w RMS Alpine 4-channel amp and 4 Type-R speakers ready to install over from my old car. Sold them once I heard how my stock speakers sounded with the Kenwood HU swap. Used the money to buy rims.

Try it out first before spending money you don't need to.

Point is....IF YOU HAVE STOCK SPEAKERS AND CHANGE THE HU....IT WILL STILL SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is all.

Buy what your wallet will allow and check the audio forum for info. Sell your OEM BMW stereo to recoup cost of the upgrade. I got $250 for mine. Sold my Porsche one for $250 as well.

Am I the only one that thinks that Dynavins look cheap?

Would still get one at a good price, but for $600+ craftsmanship is just as important as bells and whistles IMO

My question on the Kenwood KDC-X995: Can the steering wheel controls be used to control phone calls as well as moving the cursor up and down with the arrow keys or am I asking for too much on that one? I'd jump all over it like a spoiler on a Honda if you could. The few things I'm after (in no particular order):

1) Bluetooth phone calls with steering wheel controls.
2) Streaming Bluetooth from my Droid X for music and/or Pandora (which the X995 has already).
3) Auxiliary and USB input.
4) Sound quality.

Like I already said, you can maintain full functionality of your steering wheel controls by using an ASWC module by PAC. the sound will be better just by upgrading your HU because it'll put out about 2x as much power as your BMW HU. Assuming your speakers are still good, or course. The headunit will allow you to Bluetooth your phonecalls as well as music although the sound quality of music via bt is going to be poor. Also, the HU will load all your contacts onto it so you can dial directly from it. Your phone never needs to leave tour pocket/purse.

For the other guy that said it will still suck, NO. it will be better in a million ways, including sound as long as the you use the wiring harness to integrate the oem amp(which our op says he doesn't have). I always tell people to start with their head, listen for acouple weeks and then decide if they still want it to be louder and better. A lot of people are stoked at the sound they get just changing their oem head to an aftermarket.
