I will chime in having owned a bunch of AR15s over the years.

I currently own a modified Colt LE 6940 and its tough to beat. I also owned the S&W M&P and although it felt good it looked cheap to me... Keep in mind I have owned LWRC, Colt, Daniel Defense, H&K, etc... I keep coming back to Colt because they have worked the best for me in the long run. Most people will disagree with Colt but I have not had one single issue with all the Colts I have owned while other rifles had minor issue but nothing major. Downside is the Colt LE 6940 is discontinued but you can pick up the Colt SP 6940 which is the same exact gun, minus the Law Enforcement Only stamps. They mean nothing today but California has some strict policies regarding Colt AR15s and features. New York usually shares these strict laws.

Good luck in your search.

Look into preban Ar-15's.. While preban means nothing to people in most states alot of the goodies you want on a AR are legal in NY only on pre ban guns/magazines.
