Bottom of car hits speed bump when going over...

I think my car is bottoming out (is that what it's called?) when I go over a speed bump, and even when I go over them slowly. I'm guessing the suspension is blown? There is 75k miles on the car. When I bought the car at 72k I do not remember the bottom of the car hitting speed bumps and the ride felt a little stiffer, but now it's starting to show these signs...

You can jack up the car and you'll probably see a ton of oil around the blown shock(s)

um...

... try to check for a possible cracked/broken rear spring. This is another problem which can happen on these.

Check the tire pressures?

Move to a different trailer park?

Ok I am going to order new struts. My car came with the sport package, but not the performance package. Do these packages offer different struts? Which ones should I order from these lists? I just want to make sure I order the right ones....Thanks

Haha I don't live in a trailer park. It was just in a regular shopping center...It's happened twice now.

Youre kidding, right?

In NYC, we have speed bumps all over the place, including many streets, making such a practice highly impractical or safe.

OP,

Check your lower control arm bushings. They could have ripped/cracked/failed.

But it's in front of a church. Might as well dig a hole there to send me straight to hell.

OP, if this speed bump is one you must pass over frequently, then a couple of things...

--Your car may have been lowered...a function of springs...so if you can, try to determine what you have and inspect the spring...it can crack. If getting new springs, consider the height you need and get appropriate shocks from there...at least, this is my understanding of all that.

I'm really lowered, but I keep two 8' 2x4s with me (they just fit in passenger foot well to alongside the pass seat and fit quite unobtrusively). Whenever I get to a speed bump, which I rarely do, I'll just line up really carefully on them, centered on the speed bump, and 'teeter totter' over the damn things. Surprisingly, the 2x4s have only really failed me four or five times...lost my muffler one time and got a hole in the floor the other time, but the car looks great otherwise.

Or, find another gf who doesn't live on the wrong side of that speed bump!

Or drive slower...use brake to lower yourself softly to the other side of them...or go over diagonally...

Did I say too much?

It may just be the speed bump you went over. There's one around my area that the car always scrapes a little on, but it is an obnoxiously tall bump.

Well just went drove over 10+ speed bumps at various speeds and the car was fine. It must have just been that bump in the parking lot. Also I had two other people in the car and bags of clothes in the trunk last night...maybe it was all of the weight too? idk

I've got the same problem with mine too, happened 3 times this month already...no matter how slow I go through the bumps, but ti doens't happen all the time.
Right after the front tires goes over the bump the car bottoms out...suspension is completely stock and has 95k? Do the suspension components go out that fast?
I know my that my LCAB are shot though, could that be the problem?
