Taking the Kimber 1911 out tomorrow...with Mobil 1 0W-40

Gotta love having some left over from the BMW and prior E46. Will test it out to see how it goes. I have used slide glide.....other oils....now...let us see how the old German 0W-40 Mobil 1 does. If it is good enough for metal on metal of my car...should work just fine.

And, before you think I am nuts....lots of people use stuff like that on their 1911.

Wow, I have like 6 grand into my 1911 and I would never run motor oil in it.... just get some clp and some tube lube, and the plus side is that they aren't flamable like motor oil!!!

$6k? Orly? I'd like to see this $6k 1911.

Let us know how it goes - I've used motor oil before with decent results.

You have a $6k 1911 and you put CLP on it??? Look at the kettle calling the teapot black... Who's the crazy one?

CLP is TERRIBLE for guns. Synthetic motor oil is far more effective, and it does not burn off. And the flashpoint of synthetic motor oil is too high to combust in a pistol.

Ok first of my 1911 was 4k to start and between the costom wolf internals custom trigger and the compensater it was about 6k all together... so anyway, I broke out my ar and tossed some Mobil 1 on it, and I stand corrected!!!! It was nice not to have to break it down and clean it every 100 rounds... thanks for the hint!!! I shoot with a bunch of cops that are now using motor oil now lol...

Gun worked find today at the range with Mobil 1. Has about 400 rounds through it now. The Kimber is finally breaking in. Just 2 FTF...she is getting better. I finally found my grip on the baby Glock. I love that thing. Got some night sights for it on the way

Amen.

A majority of malfunctions in ARs are related to the use of CLP or other unsatisfactory lubricant. I've even seen some people try axle grease. Their AR seized up solid after about 250rds. CLP is petroleum-based, whereas synthetic oil is not. Such is why lubes like Slip2000 and Militec-1 work so well- they're water/synthetic-based.
As an armorer, I go hoarse trying to tell people how bad CLP is. People just have it stuck in their heads that since the military uses it, it's the best.

CLP is a local temporary labor agency here.

Keyword: TEMPORARY.

Lets see you light a puddle of synthetic motor oil on fire. Take a video of it.

Shot 100 more rounds through it today, no issues this time. Used Federal ammo. I think 100 more rounds with no issues and I will finally call it broken in. Next time I am using Winchester White Box...the normal range ammo I use for all my guns except the AK and the Walther. Had a great day at the range though. Took out the Glock 26, Walther P22, Kimber, and the Kel-Tec SUB2000 in 40 S&W flavor....such a fun gun to shoot!!!

Winchester WB was some of the only stuff that cycled correctly in my Kimber. It's terribly dirty ammo, but they crimp it right.
