red oil light flickering,and i noticed a sound,like vavles tapping

today my red oil light came on, or flickering, as i drove near a sidewalki could hear what sounded like valves tapping, when i got to work finally, i let the car sit and about four hours later i checked the oil level and it looks good, now im really stumped, what would make it tap like valves with no oil, clogged oil filter? this is a 2000 with 109,000 miles, i had the oil sep replaced all the hoses at the dealer, what needs replacement now?

This car has major oil sludge, bmw wanted $9000, to remove the head drop the oil pan and desludge, i told them change the oil, close it up and i just bought a nissan titan, I.ll never buy another bmw used again, actually i'll never buy a new one either. For the price of these cars i think there cheaply made. The car at five yrs old window reg breaks on both sides coolant hose leaked power steering hose leaked, had all hoses and oil sep replaced $1400,just amonth before i finally called it quits. Good luck, your gonna need it.

Can you show us photos of this sludge?

Dont trust what a BMW dealer says. Also $9K is ridiculous. Go elsewhere.
