SoCal BMW Dealers Parts Department huge ripoffs

Why do Socal BMW dealers have such expensive parts compared to most of the other dealers in the nation. The one's close to me I am referring to are BMW Crevier - Santa Ana, BMW Long Beach, and BMW Irvine.

I find Long beach to have better prices out of the three. I cant remember too much specifics but i have called for parts where other people on the forum have said the part is cheap to find that these dealers prices are often 3-4x the amount.

My latest example is oil filter housing gasket.
BMW - Crevier Santa Ana wanted $18!!! F*** YOU for a $3 part from autohaus
BMW Long Beach $12.64 so i had to settle since i want to work on it Sunday.

Other parts I bought were Vanos bolt ($7 each) x 2, oil filler neck $11. Even washers are marked up 3-4 times. They go for 75 cents each.

I have inquired about window regulators, pumps, belts, prices so outrageous I dont even think about asking them anymore unless I have to.

Interesting that Crevier has that high of prices... I heard that they are willing to price match. Your best bet is to order off the internet. There are a ton of reputable places online that are really affordable such as Tischer BMW, Pelican Parts, and ECS.

Yea i definitely order online when possible. Pelican parts and autohausaz are my favorites. But when I don't want to wait on shipping or need it on the weekend, then i'm between a rock and a hard place.

I just searched online for a gas strut that I need. Pelican wants 48.50, Autohaus doesn't sell it, and last week Crevier quoted 47.21

then dont go to the dealership its as simple as that. if you need a part order it in advance online. thers no reason why you should need a part at the spur of moment unless you do crap planning or your car breaks down ever other day

From my experience, Tischer and Faulkner are hit-or-miss with their shipping. You really don't know the ETA until they ship it out, which is usually a week or thereabouts-more so during the winter months. I'd like to think that's the tradeoff for the (sometimes) free shipping and reasonable prices. So even if you're a meticulous planner, hoses break, brittle plastic parts snap off, stuff leaks, and when that happens you don't have a week or so to drive around and wait.

i'd prefer bma to pelican just because it's a little closer and prices are better. The shops to watch out for are the independent parts shops if you need parts on the fly. if you need something quickly, i'll pm you my number.

But for real, hit up the Racers Edge and ask for my boy Harry. If he's not there, ask for Brian Spilner.

What you talking about? The Racers Edge is a great spot for parts. Then you can roll down to Torretto's to get them installed and have a nice tuna sammich while you wait. Just don't hit on the chick at the counter.
