hello all

hello fellow e46 owners...first post.
Thought I would share a few unfortunate events to y'all being that this is my first post.

About a month ago I was heading to work and some young dude went through a yield sign and sideswiped my passenger side door just b4 the front wheel. Finally my claim has gone through and its getting repaired on Monday.

About a week ago I had to take my car in to get the power steering hoses replaced. The car was sitting for about 2 and a half weeks, went to start it and no go, battery was dead. Got a boost and drove it to my mechanic in the morning. He calls me after lunch and told me my car was ready, however he said that my instrument cluster is no longer working. Funny thing was, totally remember it working on the way down there cause I was commenting to myself that the clock was wrong. He also said that he charged the battery for me as well. Anyhew I went and bought a new battery, and still no dice...AND my AC doesn't blow cold air. Checked all my fuses, with no luck...pulled the cluster out and reseated the connections in case they somehow were wiggled loose when I got hit....no dice...at my wits end..I unplugged the battery and am going to leave it overnight and pray to the man upstairs...I am however starting to come to terms that the cluster will need replacing....

I am open to suggestions, I have read pretty much everything in the forums that is related....although I have read that the cord from the CD changer could also be something to look at but I find that strange....

Again EVERYTHING else works....my abs, airbag light, and backlight work..signal lights, headlights, brake lights all visually work but im not hearing the clicking noise when the signal light is on, or hearing the beeping when you have your key in the ignition...

Thanks for listening!
lol!

Alternator? More simply if you don't drive the car constantly (or at least in my case) the battery will "die"

Won't installing a used cluster from another car turn on the "tamper dot"?

I'd still be stuck up BMW or not.

yeah but im ok with that...I love my car but unfortunately i couldn't muster up the 900 bucks to go new and have the dealership reprogram it. Got one off eBay for a hundred bucks....I have a recording of the last reading from the old cluster if i ever decide to sell her.
