proper installation of the DEI shock sensor revealed

i know you guys like to mount the sensor under the hood, but 1, it looks bad, 2, it's not waterproof, and 3, it doesn't work well in the rear of the vehicle. well, i just installed mine and here are the 3 pictures I took of the install. all the wiring can be accessed at what's called the general entrance module. it's situated in a white enclosure that can be found behind the glove box door once it's removed. it has 3 plugs on it. the thick red with blue tracer is your 12v source, the thick brown is your ground & the thin purple/green is your hood-pin wire. i have my sensor turned up a little over 1/4 and a light to medium tap anywhere on the car will trigger the alarm, since it's now situated right in the middle. front tires, rear tired, underneath, glass, anywhere on the car with a medium force applied to it will trigger it, it's excellent. this also saves you guys from using 2 sensors, because trust me, there is absolutly no need for it. when turned up higher a very light touch on the trunk lid will set this off, so you have lots of adjustment with it mounted here. here are some pics. this is the easiest, cleanest & out of sight (important to me) way of installing this sensor...
here is a pic of the wires with taps installed

and here is the shock sensor.

can you give a more detailed DIY on exactly how you did it? or maybe write on the image the steps and arrows pointing the the correct wires and location

DIY please

Also, do you have any problems opening and closing the trunk alone w/o disabling the alarm? I have mine connected to the hood pin and when I close the trunk w/o disabling the alarm, the alarm go off. It looks ghetto

wow thats nice! mine looks ghetto. Hmm is this non-waterproofing in the hood area a major concern?

Very nice work... so this is right behind the glove compartment huh. That will save me on wiring since you only will need short leds....Now I will have to redo mine too. The wire color are same as in the engine I tap from huh??? I know when I had my Accord, I attached mine to the steering column and it worked great there too....

Great job

question????

I just ordered my sensor 504d

there are two wires for sensitivity on the shock sensor
blue/low sensitive
green/high sensitive

when doing this mod form the glove box which one of these wires will go to the thin purple/green wire

thanks

anyone know how to wire up the dual stage feature? perhaps a separate siren?

this way alarm will "chirp" with a light tap and trigger on a harder impact....

the DIY is pretty self explanitory. open up the glove box, and remove the screws. there is one on each lower left & right corner, and like 4 I think across the top close to the latch mechanism. remove the 4 screws underneath holding on the plastic trims from underneath & the glove box just pulls straight out. what your left with is what I have shown in my pictures. the power and ground are on the far right plug out of three, and the neg. hood pin is on the far left plug. it's just that simple. i'm so happy the way this works here, it's great. as far as vibration goes, since it's mounted to a wiring harness, it still picks up the impact, but the vibration of the 4 18" W6 subs in my festive right beside it will not set it off (sweet) took me about 30 mins to pull out the glove box, check the wiring on the GEM and reinstall everything. I think you guys will be really happy with the positioning of this as well. warranty will never even know it there either, because it's impossible to see it with out taking it apart you know? as far as the pre-warn goes, if you really want it you could try using 2, diode isolated from one another. use the blue on one set very sensitive for the pre-warn and use the green on the other set a little lower to activate the alarm. that way a light tap will trigger the pre-warn of one sensor, and a harder tap will immediatelt activate the alarm. i'm not sure if this would work or not, but seems it might. maybe I'll try it next week. i've got shock sensors laying all over the place at work, would be pretty easy to try....

nice writeup! I just noticed yesterday that on my other car with DEI alarm installed by a pro, they put the shock sensor just a foot or so away from the brain, just underneath the steering wheel. Sensitivity is pretty good when it's placed there, so placing it behind the glove compartment should produce similar results. This sounds relatively easy, however, some clearer pics would definitely help us DIYers...

Interesting, did you think about installing it in the trunk? That cannot be seen either?

BTW... what type of wire tap are you using there?

I always use 3M wire taps. I'm not a fan of cutting wires, especially facotry ones, and the t-taps are your best alternative. No, I didn't think about putting it in the trunk because that defeats the whole purpose, you might as well leave it under the hood. the idea is having it mounted in the "MIDDLE" of the car, so the sensitivity works equally from the front to the rear of the vehicle. Most shock sensors, as well, are designed to be mounted to a wiring harness too, so that makes the GEM area the perfect place to mount it, DEI or an alternative. Mines actually a 504D, but they are the same piece anyway. the difference being the 504D is what comes w/ the DEI alarm (where i scavenged mine from) and the 504M is just the shock sensor sold individually. I have a HP digi-cam that I purchased about 3-years ago, so that's as good as the pictures get. it's really easy, if you can handle putting it under the hood, this is no different, you just need a phillips screwdriver & some zip-ties

Great job. I had my DEI sensor professionally installed for like $30. That's exactly where they put mine. I was telling them to put it in the hood, and they smiled and replied that I would like this placement better. It works awesome, and is very clean install. He also mentioned something about a diode, but didn't ask him to clarify.
