Diagnosing noise

Hey, I just joined today and I am also fairly new to being a DIY mechanic. I have a 330xi and lately with the warm weather, I have been hearing sort of a high pitched screech noise that seem to be coming from the driver's side vent; sometimes when I first turn my car on, and sometimes when my car has warmed up a bit and i have been driving, it will also screech. I was thinking this might be the AC, but it is hard to tell since it only lasts for 5 to 10 seconds. Any thoughts or ideas on how I can go about figuring out what it is and get it fixed? Thank you

You've got to do what you can to isolate the source of the noise. You can use a stethoscope to help pinpoint it.

I have heard about a stechoscope. Where would I be able to find one or will I have to take it to a mechanic to get it done?
