The E46 M3 ruined my perception of what a car should be and do.

BUT....In a good way I think?

I do not think the E46 M3 is god's gift to cars. There are cars that handle better (my evo is one of them) and there are cars that are simply faster (z06's, e55's blah blah blah) but there is sure something special about this car isn't there?

Ive been looking for a replacement car for my M for a while now. My M gets driven on weekends, nice days, Fridays or just whenever I feel like really driving. I have a Ford escape for work and thats only because I have to carry giant Dell servers and so forth.

I simply cannot find a car that has what this M3 has. The X factor, that "reason" to buy and I have looked into or test drove the following cars:

C5 z06 (AWSOME car, the interior blows and I hate the LACK of traction)
Benz E550 (and an E55) (I like this car, its elegant, but feels like I'm driving a 5 Series on novacaine)
08 550I (this is my favorite so far but does not come in red )
Is250/350 I really liked this car but it just had no personality ?
Ls430 (nice but I feel like a 50 year old)
GS300/400 many different years including the 430 (I guess I'm just not a huge lexus fan)
Have not tried the B6 (?) V8 S4? Wonder if that could have a chance
05-ISH and up 7 series?
335I has not been driven yet, I have a feeling this is one I really need to take a close look at.

Right now the 550I is in the lead but finding one that's not a boring color and has all the options I would like is near impossible. I have an Evo for absolute insane driving so my M replacement does not have to be mod friendly. My next car will see sway bars/wheels and maybe springs. I swear I may just have to save a big down, or wait a bit until the E92 M3 comes down in price? (dont wanna spend more then 35K)

Cliff notes:
I'm looking for a car that offers the same quality's as the BMW M3. I would not be getting rid of my M and not in a hurry to do so, I would just love to get into something newer with a warranty and more technology.

I've driven quite a few cars and definitely the E46 M3 is one of the best. I quite liked the E92 M3 also. The Porsche GT2 is amazing as well but a bit too expensive .

The standard 3 series is also a very good car. The 330Ci I had was so refined and smooth in every respect. Like you say though, a lot of other cars are awesome, but lack in one way or another. The M3 seems to do pretty darn well at everything.

Whats sad about you is that you are expecting a 2002 to handle like a much newer car. BMW was pretty ahead of its time with the technology and the skills of the e46 M3, especially in 2002. Start comparing your car to other 2002's and see what you get. You will be a lot more satisfied then.

Well in my opinion the E46sī (with the M3 being the top) handling is great even comparing to the newer cars... For example I really donīt think that, for example, audisī handling is beter now then, say, 7 years ago...

Agreed.

Plus this really isn't about handling. It's about the whole package.

Didn't say I wanted it stock.

Said there is something about the m3 and I'm looking for other cars out there that have that same quality.

Sorry you feel this is pointless, but I'd just like to hear others opinions about other cars that seem to fit the m3's scope. I'm not asking anyone what car inshould buy, I'm looking for other experiences from people that may feel the same way as me. This is a discussion forum so....here we are.

I would have to strongly disagree. I've driven many Genesis Coupes as the company I work for owns a Hyundai dealer as well(across the street) and they have 0 wow factor and the warranty jobs all the new Hyundai's get on a regular basis is atrocious.
