Unhappy are they nuts?

my dealership claims there is only one M3 sterrng wheel and they want to charge $500 for it! Then they say M3 mirrors, painted and installed is over $800!

actually, if the 800 for mirrors includes product, paint, and install all at the dealer, thats worth it. cost is roughly:

mirror housing: 450ish
mirrors: 120ish
paint: 50-100ish
labor: self or dealer

personally, speaking from experiance with my own setup, i would do the 800 at dealer.

not exactly.. they have to match.. since I the round airbag with the round airbag. I have the round sport sterring wheel, thus my airbag fits. If you don't have the round sport steering wheel, you need to buy anew airbag too and that's a pricey mo fo.

order your M3 wheel from cutter, circle, or pacific. It ought to be 325 for the colored stitching and 275 for the black stitching (Which is hard to find)

damn soheil.. your price are wayyyyyyyyyyyy off

housing should be around $160 each and mirrors are $60 and $68 (don't ask me why they are different) that's the pricing from circle.. it's the power seat power mirror memory seat setting m3 mirrors.

paint is around 120-200 depending on where ...

mirrors should be self installed, it's really easy.

so no way in hell anyone would agree to pay 800 bucks at the dealer.

and lyon123.. fender mender is an awsome place to go.. they use OEM german paint..

someone on board came check out the paint job on my car from them.. she is impressed

if you don't have round air bag steering wheel to start with, don't even bother putting a new round air bag steering wheel on, forget about the m3 steering wheel too.

it won't work, because the new round air bag has 2 stages of deployments and has different plugs than the old triangular air bag. yes the m3 steering wheel fits but you won't have airbag.

and also pacific bmw doesn't carry them anymore, because of safety purpose..

E46boy: regarding airbag

I have a 2000 323 touring with std 4 spoke wheel. I've removed it and checked bag connectors against a later 3 spoke sport wheel. The connectors are identical and will plug-in no problem. So that doesn't appear to be the issue.

It all seems to come down to the 2-stage or "smart" bags used in the 2001 and later cars. What we need to determine is whether an older vehicle will properly recognize and deploy the smart bag as it would have the original "dumb " bag. That is to say, at full inflation. This would ensure safety equivalent to the older vehicles original system. In other words, you lose the low-inflation stage available in the newer vehicles.

I've read here somewhere that the newer bag plugged into an older car will cause the dash light to go on. That's nfg since you can never be certain if you've got a fault or not.

Would be great to be able to uncover all the technical details of the system.
