E46 mango my friend actually lives in valencia he told me the same thing, he said they are much better mechanics there too and dont try to rape you with pricing like glendale does, and im really thinking about a swap because im afraid to hear my head is cracked or anything after the fact that its already taken apart and they've already put labor into it, im going to leave my car until tuesday once everything calms down and go take care of this, but in all reality... 360$ for labor? really? lets say he took 10$ an hour working on the car.. the car wasnt even at the shop for 36 hours for them to give me that sort of price, lets say it was a 6-7 hour job MAX especially with all the right tools under your hands and a jack to put your car up on, so that means 50$-60$ an hour? really? lol if thats the case i should go open up a shop like this

$50-60/hour for labor is a great rate. My local dealer charges $99.99/hour.

Wait wait wait, so this guy told you it was just the radiator and coils, replaced them, then proceeded to change your pads and rotors, now he's saying your head gasket is toast?!?! From your initial post saying there was a loud knocking, I wouldn't be surprised if your motor is toast, so why the f*** would this guy replace your brakes when the f***ing motor is blown. "oh I can't go anywhere but at least I can stop?" WTF
//end rant

This sounds like a screwed up situation. Unauthorized work, unclear communication... sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
I'd come up with a clear plan before swiping the credit card.

the reason he changed my breaks was because hes my dads "friend" so he figured i didnt have breaks so hell just do it himself... which is bullshit because i told my dad i want to go to BMA myself and get the parts myself and go to my own friends shop and do the labor myself for free

You'll probably make more parting it out on here than you would trying to sell a car with a blown motor.

Yes, I read somewhere that should one of these cars suffer significant coolant loss at highway speeds the driver has less than 5 seconds to shut it off to avoid a warped cylinder head.

My Ride: was a bit tiresome

+1. If you have the luxury of space and can leave the car in your yard for a few months as you are selling pieces off of it, then you are likely to make more out of it.

^^^^^ Yes he would get more parting it out, but sometimes waiting to sell the parts takes FOREVER, and I doubt he is going to want to wait months to a year to sell everything.

me and that mech would have a serious problem if he changed stuff without talking to me first, sounds like hes milking the cow, all the more reason to smack him

I think it is time for some serious conversation with your mechanic, he's kicking you in the but and laughing in your face. BTW did you pay him for all his "work"?

Hey eric it seems like you dont know what you are doing, if you want a legitimate mechanic with a solution to your car just shoot me a PM and ill take you to the right guy. Not someone who ask $1000 for a salvaged 96 camry PLUS trade for your car

Your engine does not turn off just because you broke your radiator. Unauthorized work is against the law in multiple states. For that $800 you could have gotten radiator and a used motor if you look well enough.
