I've always wondered if there is such a thing as a positive schizophrenia where you hear people telling you all kinds of good things and you become insanely successful. By the book, a mental quirk isn't an illness until it becomes a problem.

It interests me too, but I've accepted the fact that 99% of what I read about the project is coming from some conspiracy theorist locked up in his basement somewhere and that's turned me off from wasting my time with it.

There was a special on the science channel where they used something similar, just magnetic fields to induce a current in the brain, to treat a man with aspergers who was an engineering prodigy but couldn't function socially because he didn't recognize human emotions. They stimulated the part of his brain responsible for emotion and voilą he was cured until it wore off.

I'd have thought it would be like the mice where once the connections are formed, they'd remain. Though his issue may have more to do with a non-functioning part of the brain as opposed to just forming more synapses/memories.

I dated a woman that believed the Bible literally. She thought that the prophets in the Bible were chosen by God, but that anyone who had psychic abilities today was an agent of the Devil.

She asked me what I would do if I heard a message from God and I told her I would probably consult a psychiatrist and she was upset with me because no one trusted God anymore....

If it came from the Bible it was ok, but anywhere else it was the Devil.

Everyone knows you can't predict earthquakes, but seismologists/geologists in Italy were charged with manslaughter yesterday because they failed to adequately warn Italians of an earthquake in 2009.

I know the science is getting better but it has not gotten to the point that we can predict when they will occur. Everytime someone makes a prediction it falls flat.

If all the stories of religious prophets didn't stem from the same person/event, then there's no doubt in my mind that Jesus was a nut job. How many people are locked up right now because they're claiming to be the second coming of christ?

This is pretty old, so I can't imagine where the technology is today, but was anyone else aware that we can pull images directly from the brain?

I knew that we actually sent images into the brain. Simple shapes and layouts and such, but still... Huge potential. One day we'll be connected to the internet through our brains, controlling our inner PCs with heads-up displays embedded in our field of vision.

oled contact lenses will be the first step toward bio-integrated internet. A few years ago a team in Oregon was working on lenses that had only a few pixels, but this was before oled technology blew up. I would imagine they've made steps toward a legitimate display by now.

Sure, eventually though, I believe we'll be able to project these images virtually to our brains. You'd control everything with your thoughts.

Oh no question. Give it another 30 years or so.

Nasa said scientists would only be able to make more accurate predictions about where the satellite might land two hours before it enters the Earth's atmosphere.
I wonder why they won't know until so late in the game. You'd think they would have all the information they needed to make a fairly accurate estimate.
