01' 330i rattle under center console

Hey guys i was just a little concerned about the way my car is responding. It started to happen like 3 days ago. I have a 01' 330i automatic transmission and every time i accelerate faster then usual, between 2nd and 3rd gear theres a big rattle under the center console area. I want to say it the exhaust letting out more then usual cause i canceled the butterfly valve due to it being loose and also rattling. So i wanted to know if you guys could help, thanks in advance!! I think it might be the exhaust or tranny, I'm not sure. Any help?

If you have not fixed this yet, the noise you are hearing is the driveshaft center support bearing. This exact same issue occured on my 01 330i. Here are a few pics of mine when it failed:

And this is what your driveshaft looks like:

BMW driveshafts are "non-servicable" meaning that you can not replace u-joints. However, you can purchase the center support bearing and just replace it after splitting the drive shaft in two (on bolt holds it together). Removing the driveshaft isn't too difficult, just takes time since the whole exhaust system needs to be dropped. Oh, and you will need external torx tool (I can't remember which size) to unbolt the driveshaft from the rear differential. Other than that, it really is pretty easy.

Since I tore mine all apart, I was not going to chance it and I purchased a whole new "referbished" driveshaft with center support bearing from http://driveshaftspecialist.com/Impo...FQ5lhwodV2YG4w

Let me know what you did or how this turns out.

Hey, thanks for the comment but yea that was exactly what happened! I had the whole driveshaft replaced at the stealership but it actually wasn't as much as i thought it was gonna be. I had to replace the whole driveshaft cause i had an indy work on it before and they only switched out the guibo and it was put back wrong so the driveshaft play made the guibo twist up and i could of had a problem with the differential and what not back there!

Just out of pure curiosity, how much did the stealership set you back for this?

It set me back bout $1200 but if you think about it, the driveshaft alone with the guibo costs $800 and some change. And if labor was give or take $400, it's not bad! Cause it's probably like $100 an hour on labor and 3 or 4 hours sounds about right
