30 mpg !!

I was on a 500 miles (mostly highway) road trip over the weekend on my 05 325i (Automatic). It has 34,000 miles so far....

Not me, the previous owner did not drive much !!

GOT 30 MPG !!. Think it's great. Right?

It is good - I can get 32-33 mpg pure highway with my 2001 330i. BMWs have always gotten really good mpg highway - even M3s. Mixed driving (more rural than highway) I can get as high as 23 mpg.

At 71-2 mph I'll get 34.2 mpg in fifth.

You have a smaller, yet newer engine...not sure what you should expect, but I know there are 323s getting 35-6 mpg. You've probably got a little room for improvement.

Do the numbers and see how worthwhile it is to do something about.

Fuel filter will get you 1.5 mpg I bet. Air filter a little, little bit. Techron a little more. Top tier 93 octane, a little more.

I think you're very close to what you should expect, but there's room for improvement, no doubt...not much though.

Sounds about right. I have managed 35-36 mpg on purely highway trips. Most driving around town and back and forth to work gets me 28-31 mpg. Mine is a 323ci with a 5spd.

In general, I thought MPG is a little less for Automatic compared to Manual? Mine is Automatic. So, I guess I am right up there..

My Ride: Fst'r then your e46
I see 30's over here. I have a 2000 323ci, which is smaller then the 330, and my gauge never went past 28. Soon I think it will be since I just started putting 93

-I was proud of the 18.8 mpg I recently got on my Chevy Astro Van doing 98% freeway going 65-70.
-I managed about 33 mpg in the MINI Cooper S vert 6 speed doing about 75% freeway at 70. Turns out if I turned on the AC on full blast, the mileage dropped by about 5 mpg.
-Best I got with the 330i was about 27 driving about 80 doing 90% freeway with AC.

So yes, I'd 30+ mpg is pretty good.

Long highway trips absolutely. Got 40mpg a few years back on a trip down to Cali.

Typically 27mpg though.

In Texas? Don't be an idiot. At 55, you'd end up with a goddamn stream of cars crashing into you.

Normal cruise for me is 75-80. Our car easily achieved low- to mid-30s on the highway at those speeds. If you don't with yours, then you're not doing something right...

The e46 mpg seems to be about 3-4 mpg optimistic. Last tank I got about 430 miles, OBC reported 30 mpg, but gallons/miles indicated about 27 mpg in real life.
