Hit an animal @ 70 mph....

Around 1 am today,on my way back from montreal,on a deserted stretch of I87 south I hit an animal,I almost lost control of the car.
Should I make a claim through my insurance company?
It seems like the front bumper is done and the plastic undercarriage tray is also history.
Luckily I was able to drive for another 5 hours.

Yeah bro file a claim. I hit a racoon a couple of weeks ago while it was raining on my way down to Miami. It busted my bumper and took out my splash shield down underneath and it didn't look too repairable. So I figured the damage would be more than my $500 deductible. Called State farm and they said it's called a comprehensive claim so my rates don't go up. Now i'm just waiting on a check. And if you're missing your engine splash shield or belly pan or whatever like I was, that's like $120 right there. But I would get a quote first and see if it's more than your deductible. It most likely will be. Hope that helps. Good luck man.

Wow sorry to hear bro. At least it wasn't worse! Should be an easy repair.

Doesn't seem too bad, but check to make sure there's no damage behind the bumper. Also good luck with your new bumper selection.

Agree with poster above.

Unless you have a crazy deductible, file a claim. My insurance offered $0 deductible for ~$80 more per year, and I took it.

When I had Allstate they had a policy where it was $0 if you hit an animal even though I had a $1000 deductible. I did not have any special type of coverage so it might be worth asking what they policy is when it comes to hitting animals. I didn't have a choice though the damage from the animal I hit exceeded $2500 so I filed the claim.

Does that cover people too?

You got lucky it only did that amount of damage! Hope you can get it fixed quick and cheap.

I hit a deer at 10:00 at night going around 130 km/hr in my wife's Accord. Just clipped the front right corner but caused over $6K damage. Do you know what you hit? Looks pretty low.

you are very lucky op, I have seen cars totalled and people die from hitting animals slower than 70mph....trick here is, if you want to live dont hit the brakes before impact so it can go underneath instead of through your windshield. Craziest thing I have seen here is a person hit a moose on the merritt parkway.

Thanks guys....I already filed a claim online with geico.
I believe that I hit a racoon.I saw it but it happened so fast I didn't want to swerve or brake.I got real scared thinking I was gonna have a breakdown.
I'll try to upgrade to Mtech II.

Should have fired a red turtle shell.

That is really unfortunate, but at least it was a small animal.

Glad you're okay and hope you get the car fixed up soon. Time for an Mtech II

File a claim. It will be covered under comp. Look at my car after I hit a dog at 75mph. Caused 8k in damage all covered by Allstate.
