BMW "performance" grilles?

I have read somewhere that there are black performance grilles for the e46, part numbers: Left: 51132158543 Right: 51132158542.

Searching this on realOEM shows the result as grille, black. So I am wondering is there something like performance grilles for the e46? (As black grille could possibly also just refer to the black grilles like those on the 318i) Has anyone here ever fitted them? and what do they look like?

Thanks

I think the performance grills are gloss black while the aftermarket black grills are matte.

Correct me if I'm wrong

My Ride: hates potholes
performance grills are gloss black, like the ones on the current e90s.

I don't believe that the grilles do a damn thing for your performance. About all they do is to make your car look like crap.

Yeah, I doubt they would do anything to the performance of the car, apart from making the car feel faster

Thanks for the input guys, just wanted to know whether there is really something like this, as this was the first time I had read about this.

Would be cool if I could get my hands on a set as I kinda like the gloss black, but that is just me

The OEM performance grill has better aerodynamic properties because of the slippery gloss surfaces. This translates to +5hp.

As Jeremy Clarkson said, throw a BMW badge onto a plate of vomit, and its instantly sold as an exclusive collectors piece.

Same theory with the word performance.

If you like them, get them. Obviously they have no performance edge but they are well made and make your car look better IMO.

Thanks for the comments guys

I am just using the word performance not because I think it has any performance advantages I am just calling it that cause that is what BMW tends to call things that are not standard, guess it is still better than calling things M or M-sport when it is nothing to do with and M.

I kinda like the gloss black look, I currently have grilles that I painted gloss black myself, but would like to have an OEM set, guess I would have to price is is see what's what.

Performance grilles? Are they like "performance dice" that hang from the rearview mirror?

They're just gloss black, not worth the cost.

Tischer is a well respected forum sponsor. Not sure they can ship to South Africa though. Your local dealer should be able to order (or perhaps special order) the grills.

jd, I think they are more along the lines of the performance mud flaps, or high performance fender skirts. Maybe even like the high compression curb feelers, or the long stroke bug deflectors (the ones with the blue plastic propellers in the center). Now the performance mud flaps are not really performance enhancing unless they have the chrome stars, or the crossed checkered flags. These are not to be confused with the ultra-high performance exhaust extensions. They is de bomb.

Cool that is good to know, thanks.
I saw in there shipping policies that they do mention international shipping, but I did send them an email to find out (as you never know so place just don't like shipping to SA, with good reason I guess).

I will pop by the dealer just to get an idea of the pricing for then to order it for me, but I always try to find a place that sells something like this other than the dealers so I have something to compare their price to.

That is what I have on at the moment, but it only took a week for the first chip to appear and its been going downhill since then, all thanks to our wonderful roads.
Guess I could just respray every month or so, but that would also mean I would have to sand down all the chips to get them nice and level, before doing so. So seeing as there is a OEM version of what I want, I would rather go for that, I like OEM, guess I am crazy in the head.

you can probably get it at your dealer cheaper after exchange rate and shipping. People need to know it's listed as BMW's own "BMW PERFORMANCE" line which is the name, not that this item is a claim to be anything to give performance. Guess it's just for facelifts.
