I definitely plan on eventually doing headers, but I can't justify spending a ton to get them installed, and really just don't have the time to do it right now. Some day though...
What about the euro spec muffler? Seems to sound pretty good, and it's a direct fit.

Alright, I've got it narrowed down. I'm either going to go with the euro spec dual in muffler, or Y pipe it after the second resonator, run a single 3" to the rear, and use a single in Vibrant muffler. Both would be around the same price. Which would be better?

Anyone? Single 3" from the second resonator back, or duals all the way?

OP, take a look at this option, It might be just what your looking for.
If you you do buy it make sure you give a comprehensive write-up on it, the forum needs one.

You should do some more research around here, esp. in the Driveline, Engine & DME Tuning forum. You need to think ahead so you don't waste time and money as you keep improving your mods.

You say you don't want "raspy" or "too loud" but if you do muff delete or UUC system now, you will get a very loud, raspy sound when you do headers later! Headers will make the car somewhat louder all by themselves but they will also give you more hp you can feel (unlike the muffler alone).

What you want is what you what, but I hope you don't just go for noise over genuine performance. So many kids (and adults) throw good money after bad into their rides and end up with an expensive collection of bullshit that does nothing but qualify them for Rice-er status. Don't be that guy!

Do your research, have some patience and spend you hard-earned money on mods you will enjoy for a long time.

I had the BMW performance airbox and did the golf tee mod on my 2005 330i. It had a nice sonarous tone to it. The airbox runs about $300 or a little more and the golf tee mod only really needs zip ties to close the vacuum tube that closes the second exhaust tip when car is at speed. Definitely not as loud as exhaust system but nice none the less, just don't expect power gains.

Good luck.
I saw this exhaust a while ago, and it definitely sparked some interest. I guess the biggest reason I kind of put it out of my mind, is that nobody has it, so I couldn't find any vids. If that guy in the thread posts one, and it sounds good, I'm definitely willing to try it. I just don't want to be the first, because at 16, $300 bucks hurts a little more, and I can't afford something else if I don't like it, lol.

This is probably the best advice I've gotten on this thread, I really appreciate it. I'd certainly hope I never fit into "***** status", and that's not at all what I want for my car. I'm not opposed to a catback, but aside from price, that's part of the reason I wanted to just get a muffler. It seems like if most of the piping was stock, it would keep it sounding somewhat quiet once I got headers.
Btw, am I the only one who isn't a fan of the UUC?

This sounds nice, but I'd probably go with an exhaust first, and get an intake/airbox once I have the money for a Dinan tune. I forgot to mention, my car really thought it needed the golf tee mod, so it did it by itself. The butterfly valve is stuck opened.

Thank you so much guys, if anyone has any other suggestions that would be lovely! I really appreciate all the help I've gotten.

I wish I could make time. I'm taking summer classes for about 9 hours a day, basically so I can graduate a year sooner and hopefully won't have to take any math in college. I could probably do it at the end of summer though. How involved is the install? I've searched, but cant find any threads about the price of an install at a shop.

$400-1000 depending on shop. Everyone will tell you to DIY.

When a 16 year-old has the means to buy a BMW, it makes me think the brand has lost any pretense of exclusivity whatsoever.

I'm sorry, but comments like this really bug me. Obviously I can't make as much money as an adult, but I'm willing to work, and have been since I was 8 years old, saving up for it. Have you seen the prices of e46's lately? They're not that expensive anymore. Bought my 2001 330ci w/ 123k for $7500, in mint condition.

I have a Remus catback on mine, sounds very nice, but will be nowhere near $300 I would imagine. My friend put a Vibrant power on his Nissan Sentra SE-R and it was very high quality and sounded excellent, no fartcan sound at all even though its and inline 4. I imagine it would sound much, much better on the M54. I would check it out, if its under 300.

Thanks for the advice! From the few low quality vids I could find it sounds similar to the euro spec. Just cheaper. Do you guys think it would be loud with eithe of these? I really want it quiet, just deep. Maybe similar to a stock e36 m3

Haha, well I have a ten year old coupe. Funny thing is I actually would prefer a sedan. More convenient and I even think it looks better, go figure. Lol. What do you have?
