i was reading on the dinan site that when you install one of their products you have to get one of their upgrade softwares. lets say i want to install a k&n intake would i have to get a upgrade software to get it running right of can i just install and drive (plug and play). i want to put a little more power but i need to make sure i don't want to destroy my new bmw.

You'll be fine with the K&N filter. No need for a new tune...when you get to the point that you need to clean it, make sure not to over oil as it may screw up your MAF. IMO a clean OEM filter would be your best bet though. Congratulations on your new car.

I'll sell you my k&n I had on my last car. ('01 330i) Only had it about 2 months, totaled the car and can no longer use it on my 325ci due to measurements. PM me.

Welcome, imo skip the intake if your going for power... if you want it just for sound then go for it.... thats what im probably going to do in the future... the only real way to get more power is FI or a swap...

thanks guys for the good info and comments. im not looking to do any swaps mostly just want to do bpu on my bemmer. like better air flow with aftermarket intake and exhaust system (from headers to muffler). thinking of straight pipe maybe cut out the cat. i also am going to look into lightweight pulley set, maybe better fuel injectors(more air flow and more fuel flow maybe), and also if i can find a better torque converter. i want maybe 250 to 300 hp without turbo or an complete over haul of the engine if possible. just the basic bolt on's. but i guess i need to do my research and see whats the best i can do. now if you guys some good tips let me in it would help me alot. i was thinking of a m3 swap but thats going to cost me a arm and a leg.

Black on black sports package congrats. That's what I have and best color combo for a bimmer (biased lol) You should look into getting a mtech2 kit, clear corners, sides, red/clear tails and ae's etc. I have the afe intake on mine and it's nice. You should go for the intake but for the price you should do some of the other mods first.

but of course first comes first a complete maintenance. im going to do a transmission service (and no i dont believe their lifetime transmission fluid bs), oil change, spark plugs, ignition coils, cabin filter, air filter, brake service, o2 sensors, cooling system service, any leaking gasket if any found, new fluids for power steering and brake system, new tires, any new bushings or ball joints if needed, you know the whole ten yards. and i plan to do all this myself. so if i have any further question ill let you guys know.

im going to get ccfl halos and 8k hid kits for fogs high and low beams maybe thinking of the clear corners as azblkonblk stated. im loving the tail lights as is unless i find a good one. going to have my brother detail the shyt out of my bemmer in a few weeks. he's really good at detailing. not going to change my suspension im loving the sport suspension and steering. im not really planning any interior or exterior mods mostly engine transmission and exhaust mods. maybe thinking of dropping a m3 hood on with the sweet vents but unsure about that one.

That's 225 to the crank. Which doesn't mean anything. You'd be lucky to put down 190-195 on a dyno.

yes but i was talking about 250 to 300 to the crank? maybe 210 to 220 to the wheels. might make the bemmer lighter to help.
