Hey Dan I thought I some some aftermarket headers out of the UK when I was looking a while back. There are also some here in AUS that are custom made I think by an AUS manufacturer - see Peak RPM but I wasn't too confident on their respective build quality etc. Good luck with everything though the M54 flange/S54 manifold hybrid solution seems nice. Just feel bad chopping up a S54 manifold

Job done, M52 style manifolds fit like a boss

Previous owner was a 523i. They came up real nice with a quick rotary wire brush. Should get some nice gain from not having those cats right there.

I did see those manifolds I think but like you I wasn't 100% on the quality. Also I'll be damned if I'm going to order some and then they just send me eBay manifolds.

So does anyone on the thread have ideas on where someone in the US would obtain a Euro M52 manifold? That looks like just the thing I'd need to make my custom catted headers more cheaply than full custom.

Car still has no rear subframe, see my other thread

I will report back once I've driven it.

So if M52 headers will bolt up to an M54, does that mean a set like this would work?

http://www.iemotorsport.com/bmw/E36-...headerm52.html

(provided there's room in the engine bay and the rest of the exhaust will be custom)

Anyone?

Sure that would work, assuming the E36 chassis is not significantly different to the E46 to cause clearance issues.

Car feels great! Can notice a slightly deeper tone with the stock muffler, with muffler delete it is an animal

Got to dyno my car to see if all my fiddlings have added up.

I gained very, very little when I went from M52 headers to the full-monty euro S50b32 headers.

The M52 headers are very good!

When I got the joining pipes made, which are from the M52 flanges down to the original exhaust, I mentioned going tubular to my exhaust guy and he said that considering the M52 design there will be little gains to be had. I suppose if you did head work then the tubular type would be worth it.

You would need to port match and polish the exhaust side of the head, and probably run a solid lifter setup and hotter cams for the best gains at WOT. I'm going to try that with my spare motor.

Sounds good, is the spare motor an M54B30?

Instead of doing that I would probably swap my M54 for an S54B32 though.

Nope, it's another M52tuB28. I want to keep the displacement square at 84mm x 84mm to avoid Damper and OPN failure. This is going to be put in an e30 when the time comes. The only issue is that it's overheated, so it will be taken apart and extensive head work will be done. I can take it apart and put it together, but the timing will be done at my shop and the tuning will be done down in GA with MMW and Technica. I'm really interested to see what the matched flow of the exhaust ports will yield with these headers installed. Gonna be a while with school and all though

S50 Exhaust Manifold fitted Had the headers ceramic coated as well. Still yet to give her a proper drive but mid/top-end feels to rev out quicker and doesnt feel like it dies off...will play with it more later.

That is frikken awesome, did you have to modify them in anyway to get them to fit? Also, your car is also RHD if I am not mistaken?

Hi mate,

My car is a RHD. Yes there is some modification needed with the main thing the flange differences. Shouldn't be a problem at all though for a competent workshop. overall worthwhile considering the lack of choice for RHD and OEM quality

That is the flange after the collectors (where is connects to the rest of the exhaust) that had to be modified? You had not issues with the bolt pattern and port spacing? Any mods made to the piping before the collectors or do they fit fine in the space available?

Sorry for all the questions, but I just need to learn as much from someone who actually did this awesome mod
