Are you against or would you circumcise your child?

Directly below is a full length video of a circumcision procedure. This is extremely graphic, its almost impossible not to look away:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xf2...gery_lifestyle

After viewing that, do you feel that circumcision is wrong? If you are circumcised, how does it make you feel that you went through that same treatment?

Apparently cosmetic companies make a killing off foreskin, since its used in their products. Do you think this ethical?

"The resale value of neonate foreskins is astronomically dizzying in that from one boy's foreskin can be grown bio-engineered skin in a lab to the size of a football field. That's 4 acres of new skin or around 200,000 units of manufactured skin, which is enough skin to cover about 250 people and sells at $3,000 a square foot. Considering that there are 1.25 million neonate foreskins circumcised each year in the U.S alone this translates to one of the most lucrative trades, if not THE most lucrative trade in human body parts ever in the history of humanity."

Why on earth would someone willingly take off a piece of meat from a baby's penis is beyond me.

Lower incidence of squamous cell carcinoma of the penis among the circumcised. Weak evidence suggesting decreased chance of HIV transmission through heterosexual contact among the circumcised. Arguably easier to clean. Arguably looks better. Religious reasons. I'd probably do it to my child for the first couple reasons listed. It looks gruesome but really it's a benign procedure with very few risks (short or long term) to the child.

Far as making money off the foreskin... well thats another argument.

all the men in my family are circumcized, had my son snipped as well. I don't think there is a right or wrong to this question. some people like the anteater look, others think that was for men thousands of years ago, and since we have evolved, don't need it and its safe to not have it. all I know is, mine has never let me down, so do what you want with yours...

So what is it, purely cosmetic purposes or religious in your cases?

I think it was more of a culture/religious thing for me. Although I do appreciate that I don't have a turtle neck. Just looks better.

I will probably have my sons snipped as well, but since I don't practice a religion I guess it would be a more cosmetic/traditional thing.

I'm on the fence about it. I have been clipped personally and to me it just looks better. I see it like this, people pierce there childrens ears when they are very young......its all mutilation to degree. One is more graphic and painful then the other of course but for me (Non-believer) its all done just for the sake of looking better.

Circumcisions are done under local anesthesia. The babies shouldn't feel a thing if done properly. I've performed plenty of circumcisions without the babies screaming - they're pretty oblivious to what's going on.

And as the previous poster stated, decreased incidence of squamous cell carcinoma of the penis, as well as better hygiene. I've also has to perform circumcisions on adults because their foreskin became fibrotic (for whatever reason) and was causing discomfort/pain to them. The fibrotic foreskin can also get trapped around the head of the penis cutting off blood supply.

Hmmmm... Reasons? Might have been religious in my Catholic family (I'm looooong-time lapsed), although for some reason lost to the ages, my 4-year-younger brother is intact. Parents are gone, so even if I wanted to have the discussion, it's out of the question, and it's a conversation my brother and I are guaranteed never to have. Although it's been mentioned, I have to agree that the ladies do seem to like it, and I have no problem with the way I look.

As to whether I would subject my progeny to such barbarism, since I'm snipped in more ways than one, that's one call I'll never have to make. But I'm guessing if the hypothetical mama said it was OK, I'd go along with it, and if she objected, then I wouldn't. I have other marginally-more-important things to worry about... like, should I stop now, or have another Scotch before 9 o'clock?

I will not argue with the culture thing. I'm not circumcised and was a bit uneasy about it when I was younger. I've had my share of girlfriends from different cultural backgrounds (both where it is and isn't common) and it's never been an issue. So, with that said:

1) If you are proficient with a bar of soap, cleanliness is not an issue.
2) If you are not Jewish, it makes about as much sense as cutting off a child's earlobes. Yes, 2,000 years ago there was a legitimate cleanliness issue. But what's funny is that this site is populated mostly with young guys chasing women... and womens' genitals are a cleanliness nightmare by comparison.

There really isn't much downside to having the procedure. The upside of it isn't much either, but why not? It's your child.

I'll add that I think it's ridiculous that people have decided what is and isn't necessary to have on the human body. Our pinky toes aren't relevent anymore, why not chop those off? You don't see doctors removing the appendix at birth although it doesn't seem to serve a usefull purpose. Male nipples? What's the point? This is your body, it's what you were born with and the way you are. People have been conditioned to think that a circumsized penis is the way it "should" be.

I will state that I'm not circumsized and will not ever do that to my future son because I'm not going to f**k with something that has been naturally there for thousands and thousands of years. And I'm not religious so that's not an issue either.
