E46 Business CD - weirdest problem

Hi guys,

This is the strangest thing I have ever come across - hopefully someone here can help.

I've upgraded my cassette deck to a business CD unit. At first everything looked OK but then I noticed that the volume knob - when turning it (not pressing it) turns the unit off!

It breaks down like this -

1. Current knob position - everything works fine.
2. One notch clockwise - unit powers off (clock still appears)
3. Another notch clockwise - unit powers back on but NONE of the buttons work.
4. Another notch clockwise - everything works fine
5. Another notch clockwise - unit powers off
and so on and so on.

WTF???

My undying gratitude to all of you.

Sounds faulty (!)

Can you fix electronics? If not, consider a replacement.

Chances are, that your internal plastic mount for the volume knob is broke. I had a similar problem with a newer CD53 unit that I purchased from another member. I think this is a common problem with loose volume knobs on this radio.

If you carefully disassemble the radio take the faceplate off, you might be able to repair with a 2-part epoxy. I was able to repair mine with superglue, but should have used epoxy for a more permanent repair.

Hope this helps!

I'm not much of an electronics expert but taking the unit apart for some epoxy work as rmepilot suggested is definitely an option. I'll give it a try. What's the worse that can happen??

Thanks guys!

It's a security selector switch. It has to be disabled at the dealer for $45 or something.

Kidding.

It just sounds like faulty equipment.
