Will they still fix it with the aftermarket LED tails and the fact that I already did the DIY fix? Every once in a while I still get both rear light indicators on at random.

File a complaint on safecar.gov. I filed one. The tail light issue was opened up because of the volume of complaints. If we can draw the same attention to the ZKW problem, maybe NHTSA will take a serious look at it.

It's not for the same reasons...not even remotely close. The ZKWs burn up because certain components are made out of plastic and can scorch and melt from the heat of the bulb. It has nothing to do with electrical (but for the fact the bulb uses electricity). The tail light issue is a matter of passing too much current through a thin gauge wire and overheating it, causing a connector to burn up. The difference: wiring problem vs defective/substandard parts.

Anyone have photos of before and after the recall work yet? Curious how much work this recall envolves. I know the DIY and the ground issue just want someone that has done the recall and had the foresight to take photos before and after to post them PLEASE

You should go back because they announced a 98-01 recall as well. I got a letter in the mail regarding it. I'm getting mine done this week

Just left dealer. I have aftermaket clears with LED bulbs installed and they did the recall work without any hassle. It took them about an hour and washed the car, too. So, I don't think it is necessary to switch your tails back to ambers.

Just scheduled my repair this morning for March 14th. Almost one year since I initially experienced the issue.

Depends on how big of a pr*ck the SA is going to be. I stopped in and asked before I had the work done and they said they wouldn't touch it. I asked even though it's just a lens and he said yes. Might also depend on how much you patronize the dealership. They'd be more willing to play ball with a longtime customer than a snot-nosed teen driving his graduation gift...

I beg to differ. I haven't paid for anything at my local dealership outside of a small number of assorted parts. We are talking about nuts and bolts mostly. My car has aftermarket clears on it, and I performed a home repair to the ground wire before having the dealership do the repair under this recall program. They not only performed the repair, but also performed a visual inspection for me with the car on a lift. I spent the time waiting on a test drive of the new F30 335i.

All was good until the salesperson handed me over to the finance guy, who raises an eyebrow when I mentioned that my annual salary was perhaps $6k. Then I got a nice offer to come back at a time in the future when I had a real job, took my car back, and bounced.

This is such an easy fix, all we have to do is add an extra ground wire on each lamp and replace the connector if the ground terminal burned through. Bulb holders are not covered thou. I've done quite a few of them and I've seen some already done by outside shops or costumers themselves lol.

Took mine in for the recall last Monday with a reciept for the sockets and harness I installed in 2010 and got a check from the dealer yesterday for $144 for the parts I bought! The moral is keep the damn reciept!
