Need help/info 99 323i

Ive been offered a 99 323i with a blown head gasket. Car has 140k on it but its in excellant shape. Im an auto tech and can fix the gasket but with issues such as the rear subframe on these models is the car worth fixing? How much is too much? What other issues do I need to be aware of? Any info would be huge. Thanks in advance

I really hope that the previous owner went to BMW for the subframe recall.

Common issues for that model in particular are:

Cooling system (expansion tank, water pump)
Rear springs cracking
Window regulators

for a start...

+1; Cooling systems, Window regulators and Vacuum leaks are the main issues...

A 99 E46 323i in good condition isn't worth more than $4,000.00, therefore I would say not more than about $2,000.00 tops is all it's worth. I would offer between $1500.00 - $1800.00. Just my two and a half cents worth...

It's a fun car to drive, but if you don't mind the lack of power then go for it. The handling is superb if you have the suspension in a good state, tires are key.

It can be the valves, piston rings, who knows. Only way to find out is to take the engine apart. What I would do first before buying is rent out or if you have a cylinder compression test kit. Come back with the numbers (I think from 210psi each cylinder is good)

My first car was 1994 toyota paseo speed limits are the same everywhere my gf has 08 g35xS with 300hp.. but to be honest i prefer to drive mine with 170hp

It gets u from A to be B and u r enjoying while u drive. So yeah.. it's worth buying it. For $1500-$1800 (like Zchild said) no car will give u such a pleasure to drive

Rare tendencies for the reverse to go completely or the torque converter failing
